We want to recognize Gary Behnke and his accomplishment with his career; 48 years with VCI in Berlin! Gary is a life long first responder for the Berlin Fire Company No.1, and knows what it takes to support many first responder agencies, including our very own with his employment at VCI here in town. He also has helped us many times every year with upfitting in the past and helping his staff complete our vehicle reflective safety decals in a timely and clean fashion.

Nothing from the best from Gary and his staff at VCI!

Best of luck with the new role Gary and thank for your support over the many years!

📣 Announcing Gary Behnke’s Transition to Semi-Retirement

After a remarkable 48 years of dedicated service at VCI, Gary Behnke is moving into a part-time role effective today, May 28th.

Gary has been a true cornerstone of our organization. His exceptional technical expertise, vast institutional knowledge, outstanding customer relationships, and generous mentorship have left a lasting impact on our team and our customers.

We are thrilled that Gary will continue contributing his wisdom on key projects and knowledge transfer. George Jackson will be assuming more of Gary’s responsibilities as we support this smooth transition.

While we will save the full celebration for his eventual complete retirement, today we want to express our deepest gratitude for Gary’s loyalty, integrity, and countless contributions over nearly five decades.

Gary — thank you for everything. We’re incredibly fortunate to keep you with us in this next chapter and wish you all the joy and fulfillment you’ve earned.

Congratulations on this well-deserved milestone! 🎉

On 05/15/2026 at approximately 9:59PM, The Berlin Police Department was dispatched to the area of the White Horse Pike and London Avenue for a reported motor vehicle crash. Dispatch further reported that a motorcycle was down in the roadway. Officers arrived on location and determined that the crash was a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and an electronic bicycle or E-Bike. First responders assessed both operators, one of whom was a juvenile operating the E-Bike. Both were found to have sustained injuries and were immediately transported for medical attention. The Berlin Police Department contacted the Camden County Crash Response Investigation Team for assistance. The investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed at this time. No further information will be released at this time.

The Berlin Police Department wants to remind the public on the ever-increasing dangers of E-Bikes and the new laws which can be found at the link below. On 04/26/2026 we posted the following message to community members shared below. On the early morning hours of 05/26/2026, the following occurred:

Multiple unlocked vehicles were burglarized in our community around the early morning hours, again. These thieves lingered through the same neighborhoods that were previously hit exactly one month ago. Not only did they burglarize multiple vehicles and stole items, but they also stole three vehicles again, all of which were unlocked with the keys left inside….
Two vehicles were already recovered by our team. Berlin Police officers worked diligently today documenting this crime spree, again and learned other surrounding communities were also struck by similar tactics, which appears to be every other day. The Berlin Police Department Detective bureau processed several vehicles again and are following up with state and other auto theft task forces in an effort to identify the suspects.

One thing in common, again after reviewing security cameras in our impacted areas and speaking with victims and witnesses.

1- The cars that were locked were left alone.
2- The cars that were unlocked were burglarized and items stolen.
3 - The vehicles that were unlocked with its keys inside of it were taken.

We ask of you again, in our community, LOCK your vehicles, LOCK your homes, garages and sheds. Do NOT, we repeat Do NOT leave your keys inside of your vehicle!!!!! Do NOT leave valuable items, purses, bags, electronics etc. inside your vehicle after hours!!!!
We share this with you all, because we do not want you to be a victim of this crime of opportunity.
Be responsible for your vehicles and property. Your Berlin Officers are in your neighborhoods when you sleep, hard at work. But criminals who pass by are looking to take what you work hard for. We need your help with ensuring these opportunistic crimes end by securing your property and reporting suspicious activity.

Report suspicious activity immediately! Lock everything!
Emergency 🚨 911
Non-emergency- 856-783-4900

Last week we posted about locking our vehicles and reporting suspicious activity with in our neighborhoods and community. This was due to an increase again of local thieves looking to pray on soft targets or victims, specifically that of unlock vehicles and unlocked vehicles with keys in them.

Well, early this morning it happened. Multiple unlocked vehicles were burglarized in our community around the early morning hours. These thieves lingered through our neighborhoods that were just checked by your Berlin Police Officers just prior. Not only did they burglarize multiple vehicles and stole items, they also stole three vehicles, all of which were unlocked with the keys inside of it….

One vehicle so far was recovered. Berlin Police officers worked diligently today documenting this crime spree and learned other surrounding communities were also struck by similar tactics.
