Happy Spring from Berlin Housing Authority!
As we head into spring, we wanted to take a moment to look back at some of the good things happening in our community over the past few months.

During the holidays, residents in Public Housing came together to prepare and deliver 37 Thanksgiving meals to neighbors. It was a true community effort.

We partnered with Feeding Hope Food Pantry, who helped cook the turkeys. Cup and Cone donated cookies, and Gold House provided containers. Several anonymous donors also made this possible. We also received handmade cards from a local Girl Scout group, which added a special touch to each meal.

In addition, White Mountain Chalet prepared and delivered over 100 holiday meals for residents at Public Housing and St. Regis.

Residents also helped create holiday stockings for every Public Housing resident, filled with a variety of donated and handmade items to bring a little extra cheer during the season.

As we move into the warmer months, we are excited to shift our focus to spring projects, including gardening opportunities for residents. We are also grateful to the Keep Driving Foundation for a $2,500 donation that will help support these efforts.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support and be part of our community!

Food as Medicine Cooking Demo
On September 22, residents gathered outside at Berlin Housing Authority for a hands-on Food as Medicine event with ACHS Portable Teaching Kitchen. Chef educator, Mina Flateau, led the group in preparing a delicious Fall Panzanella Salad, featuring seasonal produce and budget-friendly ingredients. Participants not only enjoyed a healthy, hearty meal but also picked up practical cooking tips and nutrition ideas to bring home. The event was a wonderful blend of cooking, learning, and community connection. 🤝🥗

Laurie is enjoying her new houseplant! Not everyone wants to grow vegetables, but caring for a simple plant indoors can be just as rewarding. Thanks to the generosity of several community members who donated houseplants, residents are able to brighten up their apartments, bring a sense of calm, and enjoy a touch of green right at home.🌱

Harvest Time in the Garden
Residents have been enjoying the rewards of this year’s community garden, with plenty of fresh produce to share. Cucumbers, in particular, were a standout this season growing in abundance adding a crisp, refreshing treat to summer meals. Nothing feels better than growing your own food and seeing the results right in your hands!🌿💚 A big thank you goes out to the residents who have tended the garden throughout the season and made an effort to pass along food to neighbors who might not normally have access to it. Your time, care, and generosity are what make the harvest so meaningful for our community. 🤝

Community Spotlight: Feeding Hope Food Pantry Partnership
Over the past year and a half, our partnership with the Feeding Hope Food Pantry in Berlin, an incredible organization run entirely by volunteers, has made a meaningful impact on the lives of Public Housing residents.
Together, we’ve distributed 13,545 pounds of food, that’s approximately 6.7 tons, through 387 food boxes, each averaging 35 pounds. These boxes were personally tailored to residents’ specific needs and requests, ensuring the contents were both thoughtful and useful.
To support residents with limited mobility and transportation, Public Housing staff hand-delivered each box directly to residents’ homes, offering not only food but also a personal connection and a sense of care.
The staff and residents are deeply grateful for this compassionate, community-powered partnership. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we come together with purpose, dignity, and heart.

First Crochet Group Meet-Up
Our first crochet group at Public Housing got off to a great start! A few neighbors came together to work on their projects, and enjoy some good company. Some residents picked up yarn for the first time in a while, while others were just getting started. It was the perfect way to end the week and unwind.

🌿 A Patio Garden of Peace and Pride 🌿
One of the residents at Public Housing has turned their personal patio into a garden filled with fruits and vegetables. With pots neatly arranged and plants reaching for the sun, the space is both inviting and inspiring. It’s a daily reminder of how much care and beauty can grow from just a few square feet. This cozy corner brings joy not only to the resident, but to everyone who walks by.
