Berlin Police Department is proud to announce after months of investigation, a warrant for Hugo Mariera Esquilin was served as Esquilin was attempting yet another larceny at Berlin's Harbor Freight on 11/20/25. Esquilin attempted to flee officers and was captured after a foot pursuit and a Taser deployment.

This was an intensive investigation by our Patrol Division grouping 14 separate larceny counts into a larger count of Larceny 2nd Degree and Organized Retail Theft. In Berlin, Esquilin stole nearly $18k in merchandise and over $50k throughout the State of Connecticut. At the time of his arrest, Esquilin had 8 active PRAWN warrants as well as 5 additional warrants from other agencies.

Ofc. Skinner and I are currently in Indianapolis after being given the opportunity to attend the DARE International Training Conference. Ofc. Skinner and I have a full schedule with important topics that we will be able to bring back to our Berlin Schools. The goal is to always keep learning and we hope to always be able to provide the best tools and knowledge for our students.
