Today, Captain Shannon Farrell took her final ride home after 34 years of dedicated service. Along the way, she visited SCFR Administration and Stations 43, 44, 65, and 34, giving members across the county the opportunity to wish her well.

Captain Farrell’s compassion, leadership, and commitment to her patients, coworkers, and community have left a lasting impact throughout New Mexico.

Thank you for your service, mentorship, and the countless lives you have touched. Your final dispatch may have sounded today, but your legacy will continue for generations. Congratulations on your well-earned retirement, Captain Farrell!

Please join us in congratulating Captain Shannon Farrell on her well-earned retirement!

Captain Farrell was one of the original 12 members of Sandoval County Fire Rescue. Beginning her career with Albuquerque Ambulance Service, she dedicated many years of service to our community as a firefighter and paramedic.

Those who gathered to celebrate her retirement described Shannon as having the kindest heart, being one of the most compassionate providers they have ever known, and truly one of a kind in the EMS profession.

Captain Farrell’s legacy will also live on through the SCFR Community Paramedicine Program, which she pioneered through her vision, dedication, and commitment to caring for others beyond the traditional emergency response.

Although she is retiring from Sandoval County Fire Rescue, Shannon will remain active alongside her husband, Dave, and their K9 team.

Congratulations on your retirement, Captain Farrell. Thank you for your leadership, compassion, and many years of dedicated service to Sandoval County. Your impact will never be forgotten!

Sandoval County Fire Rescue Station 34 crews are officially moved into their new station off County Road 11, near the Sandoval County Fairgrounds.

This new facility will provide our crews with an improved space to train, work, and respond while continuing to serve Cuba and the surrounding communities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make this project possible from Sandoval County leadership and public works, project planners to the contractors, vendors, support staff, and crews who dedicated their time and effort along the way.

Thank you for your dedication to our firefighters and the community we proudly serve. We are excited to begin this next chapter at Station 34!

SCFR Station 34 was proud to join the community today for the 2026 Sandoval County Fair Parade in downtown Cuba!

Our crew had a great time waving to families, meeting community members, and celebrating one of Sandoval County’s favorite traditions. Events like the county fair are a reminder that we’re honored to serve the communities that place their trust in us every day.

A big thank you to everyone who came out to support the parade and to the organizers, volunteers, and participants who make the Sandoval County Fair such a special event each year.

Today we remember Chief Jon Tibbetts, who passed away 14 years ago. As our first Fire Chief, he united our volunteer districts and established the career side of our department, laying the foundation for the organization we have become.
Much has changed since those early years, but Chief Tibbetts’ vision, leadership, and commitment to service remain woven into the history and identity of our department. His legacy continues to guide us, and we will remain forever grateful for the path he created.

This morning, Sandoval County Fire Rescue is proud to display the American flag with the Town of Bernalillo Fire in support of the Dave & Suzanne Hoefel Memorial Open at Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo.

Founded by PGA Professional Zach Hoefel in honor of his late parents, this annual tournament raises funds for the Folds of Honor Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing educational scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled military service members, as well as the families of fallen first responders.

We are honored to help recognize an event that pays tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and supports the loved ones they leave behind. Thank you to everyone involved in making this tournament a meaningful tradition and for investing in the futures of these deserving families.

Yesterday, our crews were proud to celebrate Independence Day alongside the communities we serve.

From La Cueva to Placitas, Sandoval County Fire Rescue was honored to participate in local Fourth of July parades, connecting with residents, sharing in the celebration, and representing the dedication of our department.

We want to extend our sincere appreciation to every SCFR responder who took the time to participate. Whether you were working a shift, standing by to answer emergency calls, or representing the department in our communities, your commitment does not go unnoticed.

Sandoval County Fire Rescue is honored and excited to have been invited to this year’s Freedom Fest in Cuba. We look forward to celebrating alongside our community while helping ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.

Our partners from Cuba Fire Department, Rio Arriba Fire Department, and the U.S. Forest Service - Santa Fe National Forest (SNF) to provide emergency response throughout the event.

If you’re in Cuba, this is the place to be to watch the fireworks! Have a fun and safe Fourth of July Sandoval County!

Effective today, Sandoval County Fire and Rescue is now providing 24/7 emergency coverage from our staffed station just outside the village of Cuba (currently out of La Jara, but next week from the permanent station).

SCFR will provide ALS ambulance service, fire suppression, vehicle extrication, wildland response, technical rescue, and other emergency services throughout the Cuba area and northwest Sandoval County.

We sincerely thank Cuba EMS for nearly 40 years of dedicated service to the village of Cuba and surrounding communities. We also look forward to working with Cuba FD!

PMS Healthcare Cuba clinic remains open and will continue serving the region as it has before.

For Rio Arriba residents, Sandoval County now has a mutual aid agreement with Rio Arriba County, and can provide emergency support when available.
