Need to get rid of your Christmas Tree after the holiday season? The Sandoval County Landfill is participating in a Tree-cycling event until Jan. 9. Be sure to remove stands and decorations from your tree before taking to the landfill.

Christmas Tree-cycling in Rio Rancho from December 26 through January 9. Residents are urged to return Christmas trees back to the environment by recycling. Mulch generated from Christmas trees can be used to provide a better growing environment for plants, city parks, and home landscapes. Mulch helps retain moisture in soil, acts as an insulating blanket to protect soil against extreme temperatures, and reduces w**d growth. Recycling Christmas trees allows the tree to complete its natural life cycle by nurturing soil so other living things can grow.

Bridge Rehab work began today! Early morning travelers should expect delays.

"This work is being scheduled now because river flows are at their lowest and to minimize the impacts to migratory birds and animals that use the bridge during warmer summer months."

"During the previous project on US 550, crews built a new bridge to the north of the existing two bridges. The new bridge was built offset from the existing two bridges to keep traffic moving east and west over the river while it was being constructed. The current bridge rehabilitation project will eliminate the lengthwise joint between the existing two bridges for improved safety. While this project will again impact travel on US 550, safety is a priority and we have to make sure the bridge is safe for the traveling public."

The Bernalillo Police Department has been working diligently to keep crime out of Bernalillo. The latest efforts were in answer to a drive-by shooting at 1201 Calle Madera on December 2nd. A canvas of the neighborhood had produced enough evidence to issue a warrant of arrest for 5 individuals. Additional drug-related evidence was recovered in relation to the shooting that took place on December 2nd. A special thank you to Officers Ron Sanchez and Kelsey Montoya for making Bernalillo a safer place to live!

It was great to see so many amazing people at the 67th Stu Clark Tourney from Las Vegas, New Mexico, Taos, New Mexico, Belen High School Eagle Fans, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Anton Chico, Mora, Vaughn, Pecos, Las Vegas & Santa Rosa NM Pickers, Town of Bernalillo, and Socorro, NM. Thank you to all of the organizers, officials, coaches, teams and supporters. The teams were amazing and the games were intense and great sportsmanship. Thank you to New Mexico Highlands University for the use of the Wilson Complex gym. The facility is gorgeous! As a Highlands University Alumni, it was so heartwarming to see the gym remodeled and named after the late Mayor and Coach Henry O. Sánchez. I want to THANK EVERYONE for taking the time to sign my petition to get on the ballot. 💛❤️ I really appreciate it.
After a very contentious Sandoval County commission meeting last night in which several white, GOP and former chair of the tea party commissioners, decided to tell leaders of our Pueblos, the Navajo nation, Mayor and councilor of our Town of Bernalillo and the Mayor of the Village of Corrales, as well as our unincorporated areas, that they know what’s better for them and the people they lead than those that serve those communities and people, is insulting! They never consulted with any of them even though their contractor got more than $25,000 for this mapping job and refused to speak to stakeholders. He also lied in his proposal and said he has been to every square mile in the county and visited all the Pueblos and three Navajo chapters. In testimony, when asked, he said he had never been. I know many are disappointed in the lack of process, respect and inclusion. Unfortunately, many of our leaders will have to come together to sue the county and taxpayers will have to foot the bills of yet, ANOTHER county lawsuit because they chose to not do what’s right. I saw this story, and though it’s a love song, this song reminds me of all my amazing friends throughout my county. We ARE stronger together and our diversity beautifies our county. We will get through this and come out stronger from it. 🥰❤️ Thank you to everyone who put so much work into redistricting. Thank you Commissioners Eichwald and Bruch for listening to your constituents. We lost the battle, but united, we will win the war! Please read my letter to the editor regarding the redistricting process and concerns in Sandoval County. The Sandoval County commission will be discussing and potentially, voting on a new county commission district map on Thursday @ 6 pm at the Sandoval County county commission chambers. There is an alternative map called the “Eichwald plan” that keeps communities in tact, gives everyone a voice and was created with the resolution of concerns from unincorporated, rural, small and tribal communities. You can review the maps on the county website under the agenda item 10. #nmpol #LauraM4NM Democratic Party of Sandoval County Sandoval County Indivisible Democratic Party of Sandoval County - Precinct 103 Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico Pueblo Of Sandia Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico Pueblo of Zia - Office of the Governor Kewa Pueblo San Felipe Pueblo, New Mexico Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico Corrales, New Mexico Placitas, New Mexico Placitas Community Group Town of Bernalillo Algodones, New Mexico Pena Blanca, New Mexico

Please read the full “Letter to the Editor” for a full understanding of the county commission redistricting meeting that occurred in Sandoval County. The approval meeting is Dec 9 in the county commission chambers. ——————————————- Small and tribal communities filled the room because they were most impacted by the mapping that was done by GOP contractor, Rod Adair. My purpose of writing is to share the injustice of the maps created by splitting up small communities in two or three parts, like Bernalillo and Placitas, and throwing Corrales in a district across the river more than 20 miles away. This gerrymandering and divisiveness would make three of the county commission districts so Republican-leaning that the minority of people within those districts as well as the other two districts become voiceless. ………. And to those that don’t care about fair representation and every constituent having a voice, keep in mind that the economic success of Sandoval County is in part because of tribal communities. They own and hire many county residents at their three casinos, gas stations, resorts — some that are big enough to use for large national and international conferences — five golf courses and many other amenities and infrastructure that bring in gross receipts tax, jobs and thousands of tourists/visitors, which allows other business to prosper. They also help with county-tribal partnerships like fire and police safety. These maps and whoever supports them are saying, “We want all that you Natives bring to our economic prosperity, but we don’t want you to have a voice.” #nmpol Democratic Party of New Mexico Democratic Party of Sandoval County Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico Pueblo of Zia - Office of the Governor Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico San Felipe Pueblo, New Mexico Pueblo of Sandia Cochiti Lake, New Mexico Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico Town of Bernalillo Placitas, New Mexico Corrales, New Mexico Rio Rancho, New Mexico Native American International Caucus Native American Democratic Caucus of New Mexico
Please click on the link below for the full Letter to the Editor regarding the proposed Sandoval County Commission redistricting maps. ————————- I attended the Sandoval County Commission meeting on Thursday. Walking into the room seemed no different from the times constituents were present to fight right-to-work-for-less and fracking proposals made by the commission when I was county treasurer. My preliminary purpose of writing is to share with my community the injustice of the maps created by splitting up small communities in half, such as Bernalillo and Placitas, and throwing Corrales in the Placitas district when it is across the river — more than 20 miles away — and has traditionally been part of a Rio Rancho district. This type of gerrymandering (manipulating the boundaries of electoral constituency so as to favor one party or class) and divisiveness would only have two purposes: to make three of the County Commission districts so Republican-leaning that the other two districts become voiceless and to ensure minority residents of districts in Rio Rancho also become voiceless with the lack of representation that reflects their values. But I also want to bring your attention to the injustice of process. (Read article for detail) To those who don’t care about fair representation and every constituent having a voice, keep in mind that the success of Sandoval County is no longer attached only to Intel. Our economy is doing well because of tribal communities. They own and hire many county residents at their three casinos, resorts, five golf courses and other amenities and infrastructure. Their endeavors bring in gross receipts taxes, provide jobs and draw thousands of visitors. This act that was done is a slap in the face. These maps and whoever supports them are saying, “We want all that you Natives bring to our economic prosperity, but we don’t want you to have a voice.” It is scandalous that one of the commissioners is even running for governor. #nmpol Democratic Party of Sandoval County Rio Rancho, New Mexico Democratic Party of New Mexico Sandoval County Indivisible Daniel Tso Ojo Encino News & Events Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico Torreon Chapter House Counselor Chapter Kewa Pueblo, New Mexico San Felipe Pueblo, New Mexico Pueblo of Santo Domingo Cochiti Pueblo, New Mexico Indivisible SOS Santa Fe New Mexico Federation of Democratic Women: CD 3 Town of Bernalillo Placitas Community Group Placitas, New Mexico Cuba New Mexico Corrales, New Mexico
Just Curious: If you don't want anyone to drive on Venada Plaza Drive, then why did you build that road? What is it's purpose? As a resident of Palo Duro Drive in Bernalillo, I'm fairly put out by the arbitrary closure of 100 yards of road that helps me access the world. Seems like it was all fine and dandy when it benefited the affluent residents of Sheriff's Posse Road, enabling them to short cut to 528. But when all the unwashed masses start parading through the neighborhood to avoid the endless construction on 550, then it's no longer a good idea to have this access. Apparently people in gated communities have pretty big sway in small town Bernalillo, huh?
