Road salt. We all want clear roads after a snow or ice event. Thank you for DPW for making that happen! However, putting down just the right amount of salt to clear the roads with nothing left over is a tricky business. Excess salt eventually finds it way into our waterways and water supply with harmful effects on the plants and animals that live in those watery environments. So, what to do?

The same DPW that puts down the salt to keep us safe on the road can also pick up excess salt to protect our water ecosystems. In fact, picking up excess road salt is part of the NJDEP MS4 permit.

So, if you see significant salt still on the road a few days after a snow or ice event, simply call the DPW, tell them where the salt is and thank them for their service!

Go take a hike!!

No, really. Go take a hike.

This Sunday, November 17 is National Take a Hike Day! A caution to be careful with anything that might start a fire - cigarette, magnifying glass, cell phone battery, etc. :-) during this very dry period but don't let that stop you from getting out there and enjoying the glorious fall weather.

Quiet Landscaping

There's a great article in the Bernardsville news about the towns around us moving toward quieter (and cleaner) landscaping options. It is entitled "Shhh...Quiet landscaping is now coming". It's a great read if you are a subscriber and worth picking up a hard copy if you are not.

If you want to just get the gist, you can start with this link from Quiet Montclair. Bottom line: quieter, safer, less pollution, different mindset. Something we should consider.

Battery-electric tools are the future of the green industry. Integrating them now is an opportunity to grow your business while reducing operating costs.

APRIL 8 ECLIPSE IN BERNARDSVILLE!

OK, partial eclipse but the good news is you won't have to travel hundreds or thousands of miles and no eclipse traffic.

Check out this link to see what to expect near you:

April 8 could be your best opportunity to see a total solar eclipse for decades. But if clouds fill the sky, you may miss the spectacle.
