đŸ‡ș🇾We are so excited to kick off America250PA with our own hometown celebration! đŸ‡ș🇾

Festivities will begin at 2:00 PM at the Berwick Elks with a special procession to the Jackson Mansion, featuring the Bucktails Drum & Fife Band and Berwick’s own Stuart Tank, Lady Lois, traveling along the route.

Once the procession arrives, we will continue one of Berwick’s annual 4th of July traditions on the lawn of the Jackson Mansion with a keynote speaker, followed by music and light refreshments.

Then, beginning at approximately 3:00 PM, the celebration will move behind the Jackson Mansion for even more hometown fun, including:

đŸŽ¶ Live music by Bradin Kemp
🍔 Food trucks and concessions

This celebration is all about honoring Berwick's history, bringing neighbors together, and showing the hometown pride that makes Berwick such a great place.

Bring your family, invite your friends, and join us as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday!

With Week 3 of the Berwick Summer Concert Series, featuring All That Glitters, rapidly approaching, we thought now would be a good time to answer a few of the most frequently asked questions we receive about the shows!

Berwick Summer Concert Series FAQs
Q: Wait, Berwick has a Summer Concert Series:
A: We sure do! Most Thursdays in the summer, we have a band performing at Sponsler Park, located on the 600 block of Monroe Street in Berwick. Concerts generally run from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Q: What does it cost to attend?
A: Admission to the concerts is 100% free! A significant portion of the of the cost is covered by the Berwick Arts Association, by way of a grant from the Community Giving Foundation. The remainder is paid for as part of the Borough’s annual Parks and Recreation budget.

Q: So who’s playing this week?
A: Well, if you’re asking right after we posted this, the answer is All That Glitters. But, this is Facebook, and people have a way of finding our posts weeks later, so the schedule for the entire summer is included with this post.

Q: What kind of music does this week’s band play?
A: As is the case with the vast majority of local bands, a little bit of this, a little bit of that! And listen—while we fully acknowledge that not all music is for everyone, we do make an effort to schedule performers who will appeal to a broader audience, and definitely work to ensure that all acts will be family friendly.

Q: OK, but what if I don’t like the band playing this week?
A: That’s OK! We get it, not everyone likes everything, and there’s no one type of music that everyone enjoys. If you show up on a Thursday and decide a particular performer just isn’t for you, no one will be offended if you call it a night before the show ends—and we still hope you’ll come back and try again the next week!

Q: Sometimes I don’t get a chance to eat until later. I don’t want to skip dinner, so will there be anything to eat?
A: Of course we’ll have food options! And for your convenience, we’ve also included a food truck schedule for the summer with this post (with the possibility of a few extra surprises thrown in from time to time).

Q: Are there places to park?
A: Yes, in addition to plenty of street parking, both at the park and within one block, St. Joseph’s has been kind enough to allow parking for the concerts in its parking lot, just a half block away from the park.

Q: Are these the same concerts that were at the Jackson Mansion before? Why did they move?
A: Yes, these are the same concerts, just at a new location. And listen, we get it, the Jackson Mansion was (and is) absolutely beautiful. However, the Borough was able to do a lot of work at Sponsler Park to make it a location that truly caters to the Summer Concert experience. For bands, we installed a stage, with lighting for when dusk settles in. For our dancers, there is a large, flat basketball court that perfectly transitions into a dance floor. Additionally, we installed a ton of options for shade and seating, and we have lights and sidewalks going through the park itself, making it safer for people as they’re coming or going. Finally, for families with children, the playground portion of the park is available if a little extra energy needs to be expended. I know we’re biased, but two concerts in, the change seems to be working great.

Q: Circling back a minute, what happens if I REALLY don’t like a band?
A: First things first, we will ALWAYS refund double the price of admission, no questions asked—you’re welcome, Berwick. But in all seriousness, it’s perfectly OK to politely share with Borough officials that you don’t care for a band. If you’re one of only a couple, it might not change much, but if we really get the message that we struck out on a particular artist, that can guide our scheduling in future years. Just remember—politely.

Q: What happens if the weather is bad?
A: After a successful pilot run, we’re excited to share that the Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts, located at 110 East Front Street, has agreed to be our backup location, and keep admission free. We will generally give it as long as we can before making the call to move, but announcements will be on our Facebook by noon Thursday if we’re moving indoors. If we end up inside, the Theater’s concession stand will be open.

Q: All this sounds great, but there has to be a catch, right?
A: No catch! All we ask is that you respect the performers, attendees, and venue, and that you try your hardest to have a good time.

Q: OK, so is there anything else that I need to know?
A: Maybe? If there’s anything we didn’t include here, give us a call at City Hall, 570-752-2723, and we will do our best to give a good answer!

As always, a special thanks goes out to our community partners, Berwick Arts Association, Community Giving Foundation and The Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts, to all of our incredible musical artists, and to the many people who come out each week to hang out and listen to some music!

Good news! The light at Rt. 11 and LaSalle Street is back, and better than ever! (And ahead of schedule—seriously, when’s the last time you’ve seen the government pull that off?)

Bad news! We really need to insist that traffic revert to the timeless tradition of waiting for the light to change. Sorry

UPDATE: WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH THE CONCERT IN THE PARK FOR THIS EVENING đŸŒłđŸŽ€ đŸŽ¶ - SEE YOU THERE!

It is almost time for another great night of music in Berwick đŸŽ¶đŸŽŒ.

Join us this Thursday at Sponsler Park for this week’s Summer Concert Series featuring Leo Cerreta as The Crooner Kid. The concert starts at 7 pm.

However, come early and get some yummy food from one of our community's favorite food trucks, The Original Franco's Pizzeria. They will be there early, serving up some great eats, including fireballs and pizza 🍕😋

As a reminder, in the event of inclement weather ⛈, a decision will be made by 10:00 AM tomorrow as to whether the concert will remain at Sponsler Park or be moved to the Berwick Theatre and Center for Community Arts, 110 E. Front St.

We hope to see you there for another wonderful evening of summer music.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Last Wednesday, June 3, a resident in a white pickup truck was kind enough to grab a Stihl pole saw off the ground at the recycling center, and put it in the bed of their truck for safe keeping. With this post, we're just letting that concerned citizen know that we are ready to take back possession, and that it would be great if they, or someone on their behalf, could drop it off here at City Hall, no questions asked--after all, they were just trying to help!

Of course, if this wasn't actually a helpful person just holding it for us, we would have to get police involved, and maybe post some pictures of the truck and license plate that our multiple cameras picked up. But that's not necessary here, right?

LET'S TALK ABOUT ZONING

The Borough's updated Zoning Ordinance is nearly ready for passage, but there is still time to submit any questions, comments, or recommendations before it is advertise for a vote for passage.

Both the draft ordinance and the corresponding map can be found on the main page of the Borough's website, www.berwickborough.org. (There may be some issues with certain browsers viewing the map. We're working on it, but for the time being, at least Google Chrome seems to allow access without any issues.) Borough Council intends to vote to advertise next Monday, June 15, at its 6:00 p.m. meeting. While comments can be made by the public at that meeting, we are encouraging that any comment be submitted in writing no later than noon this Friday, June 12, to allow for comments to be distributed to Council ahead of the meeting. Written comments can be submitted in person at Berwick City Hall, or via email to [email protected].

Additionally, a session for the public to meet with Borough officials and the consultant who drafted the ordinance has been scheduled for this Wednesday, June 10, from 5-7 p.m., at Berwick City Hall. This will be an additional time for interested parties to ask questions or make comments.

LOST AND FOUND

Were you sitting under the pavilion last night at the concert, only to get home and realize that you lose a gift card? If so, you may be in luck!

One of the kids in attendance found and turned in a gift card found on a table under the pavilion. If you lost one, send us a message letting us know, including identifying what kind of gift card it was, and we will arrange to make sure you get it back if it is yours.

We’re not sure who was more star struck after last night’s concert. Was it Council and the Mayor, who had a chance to meet the band? Or was it Dan and Matt, who got some face time with some of our local elected officials?
