Founded in 1894 the Berwyn Fire Company (BFC) is a non-profit (501c3) organization that provides fire suppression, rescue, EMS, and fire prevention services for the people who live, work and travel through 14 square miles of Tredyffrin & Easttown Townships. The coverage area spans north to south from Valley Forge National Historical Park to Newtown Square. East to west from the Chester County line

in Strafford to roughly the middle of both Townships, including sections of US Route 202, US Route 422 and the PA Turnpike. With an annual budget of approximately $2.1 million, our combination of 72 volunteers and 36 career staff responds to over 2,220 ambulance calls and 900 fire calls annually. In addition to emergency calls, our Fire and EMS responders spend approximately 1,000 hours per year training for those emergencies. A fleet of 11 emergency vehicles between two stations are at our disposal to respond to any kind of emergency or scenario. All of our units are dispatched through the Chester County Department of Emergency Services via the 9-1-1 Call Center located in West Chester, PA. With a variety of pre-planning and automatic mutual aid from our neighboring fire companies, BFC is always prepared. Berwyn, PA 19312

The Berwyn Fire Company regrets to announce the sudden passing of volunteer EMT Taha F. Chomelawala. Taha was involved in a traffic collision, this past week, while preparing for his senior year of college.

Taha was a graduate of Conestoga High School and lived with his family in Tredyffrin Township. Taha was attending the University of Pittsburgh David C. Frederick Honors College with the goal of becoming a neurosurgeon.

A public memorial service will be held at Conestoga High School, 200 Irish Road, Berwyn, PA 19312, on Sunday, September 6th at 3:00 p.m.

Late this morning at 10:40 a.m., the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched to Route 202 North near the S. Valley Forge Road off ramp in Tredyffrin Township for a motor vehicle collision. Automatic mutual aid from the East Whiteland Fire Company was also requested to assist with traffic safety blocking.

Fire/EMS units arrived on scene with a multi-vehicle crash. Berwyn MICU 102 transported a patient to Paoli Hospital, while firefighters cleaned up debris in the roadway.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department provided traffic control and investigated the cause of the crash. All units cleared this incident by 11:30 a.m.

This is one of 4 calls that Berwyn career staff and volunteers have handled since 9 a.m. today.

The career staff and volunteers at the Berwyn Fire Company have seen a busy start to the beginning of August with over 150 fire / EMS calls occurring.

Earlier this week on Monday night, Berwyn firefighters and mutual aid from the Radnor Fire Company, Paoli Fire Company, Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Co., West Whiteland Fire Company and Gladwyne Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 200 block of Radcliffe Road in Tredyffrin Township for a house fire.

First arriving units encountered fire and smoke from the front of a single-family dwelling. It was quickly confirmed that the two occupants of the home escaped unharmed. A total of 52 personnel (volunteers and career staff) operated on the scene.

The Chester County Department of Emergency Services Fire Marshal’s Office, Tredyffrin Township Police Department and Tredyffrin Township Fire Marshal (Barry Isett & Associates), along with PECO and Belfor Property Restoration provided services during this incident.

On Friday, July 3rd at 2:09 a.m., the Berwyn Fire Company, along with mutual aid from the Paoli Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company, Upper Merion Township Fire & EMS and Newtown Square Fire Company were dispatched for an apartment building fire in the 400 block of Swedesford Rd. in Tredyffrin Township.

First arriving Berwyn units encountered fire showing on the 2nd floor and 3rd floor balconies of a 4-story apartment building. The crew of Berwyn Squad 102 deployed a hoseline to extinguish the flames, while other crews from Berwyn, Paoli and Upper Merion laddered the building and made access inside.

The fire was quickly brought under control and there was no fire extension inside any of the apartments. The incoming apparatus from Malvern and Newtown Square was recalled.

The Chester County Department of Emergency Services Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to be accidental in nature. No injuries were reported.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department and Tredyffrin Township Fire Marshal also provided aid at the scene.

This is one of 13 fire / EMS calls Berwyn career staff and volunteers responded to in the T-E community this past Friday.

The Berwyn Fire Company, along with the Paoli Fire Company had crews and apparatus on standby for the Tredyffrin Township Fourth of July Celebration at Wilson Farm Park.

Due to the incoming thunderstorm, the fireworks were launched early to allow time for members of the public to leave the Park.

Following the standby, Berwyn crews responded to two commercial fire alarm activations and a tree into a house in Tredyffrin Township. Paoli also had members who were waiting out the storm to pass at Station 102, jump onboard Berwyn apparatus to assist with these calls.

The Berwyn Fire Company wishes you and yours a safe July 4th holiday.

Here are guidelines regarding consumer grade fireworks use in Pennsylvania:

· They cannot be ignited or discharged on a public or private property without express permission of the property owner.
· They cannot be discharged from or within a motor vehicle or building.
· They cannot be discharged toward a motor vehicle or building.
· They cannot be discharged within 150 feet of an occupied structure.
· They cannot be discharged while the person is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or another drug.

***UPDATE @ 1 P.M.***- Rt. 202 South between Chesterbrook Blvd. and the Penn State Great Valley exit has been reopened. Please use caution in the area as crews are still performing environmental cleanup efforts.

The Berwyn Fire Company is assisting the Paoli Fire Company with a tractor trailer crash on Route 202 South MM 19.8 in Tredyffrin Township. This incident was originally dispatched at 3:59 a.m. today.

Rt. 202 South is expected to be closed for several hours between Chesterbrook Blvd. and the Penn State Great Valley Exit as crews work to cleanup the crash site.

Units and personnel from the East Whiteland Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company, Goshen Fire Company Fire Police, Chester County Department of Emergency Services Haz-Mat Team, PennDOT, PA DEP and Tredyffrin Township Police Department are also on the scene.

The Good Fellowship Ambulance & EMS Training Institute Rehab Unit is enroute to assist due to the extreme weather.

The Berwyn Fire Company has responded to 12 fire/EMS calls in the T-E community today.

Firefighters were dispatched at 10:47 p.m. to a dumpster fire at the Stonegate at Devon Apartments in Tredyffrin Township. The fire was quickly extinguished by the crew of Engine 2. During this call, EMS was handling a medical emergency on School Ln. in Tredyffrin Township.

Earlier in the evening at 9:10 p.m., the East Whiteland Fire Company assisted on a motor vehicle collision on Rt. 202 South near Old Eagle School Rd.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department and Easttown Township Police Department provided aid at multiple calls as well.
