Scott Lennon Berwyn's 1st Ward Alderman

Scott Lennon Berwyn's 1st Ward Alderman Scott is here to listen and to find realistic compromises that embrace progress for his neighbors, the ward and the City as a whole.

Scott received the prestigious Charles E. Piper Award after moving to Berwyn. The 2009, press release from the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) stated that “Scott has been a tireless volunteer and enthusiastic spokesperson for the Berwyn community.” He was then; and he is now. Scott was then serving as Vice President on the BDC Board of Directors chairing the Historic Depot District Special Ev

ents Committee, Marketing Committee & the New Business Taskforce. Scott works tirelessly on efforts to attract new residents and businesses to Berwyn as “Chicago’s Best-Kept Secret.” He is serving his third term as the Vice President of the Berwyn Development Corporation. In his first term he was instrumental in shaping the “Why Berwyn?” Integrated Marketing Campaign. That campaign which featured billboards, web presence, and outreach events in the City of Chicago created the momentum that is continued in the current campaign - “Nothing like a Suburb.” Scott has been the central organizer and volunteer to ensure that Berwyn continues to have a strong presence at the Northalstead Market Days where our housing stock and community events are highlighted. He gives to keystone economic development and city beautification efforts as well as serving on the Board of BUNGALO, volunteering and promoting the LGBTQ community within the City of Berwyn and sustaining most of the Berwyn's premier special events including Berwyn's Oktoberfest and the Route 66 Car Show. Scott and Jousef, his partner of 20 years, have always made the 1st Ward their home. They both are tireless in their commitment to Berwyn as exhibited by the many committees and organizations they serve. And now, he is ready to serve Berwyn in a new role.

Making a Difference: My Experience at CLC Food Pantry

I feel incredibly grateful to assist an organization that is making such a meaningful difference in our community. Volunteering at CLC Food Pantry has truly been a rewarding experience, and it's something I look forward to every time I get involved. It’s amazing to see firsthand how the collective efforts of volunteers and donors come together to support those in need.

The work they do at the pantry goes beyond just providing food; it’s about offering a sense of dignity and hope to individuals and families facing tough times. From sorting donations to packing food, or even just lending a kind word, every small action plays a part in creating a positive, lasting impact.

If you're looking for a way to give back, I encourage you to consider volunteering or donating to CLC Food Pantry. Whether it’s contributing your time, food, or financial support, your involvement can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Check out this article below to learn more about the pantry's efforts and their contribution to our community.

Let’s continue working together to build a stronger, more compassionate community.

The City of Berwyn is working on improving the sidewalks on several streets, specifically between Windsor and 34th Street. The streets impacted include Maple, Wisconsin, Wenonah, Home, and Clinton.

The project is funded by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), which is aimed at improving public infrastructure. Additionally, there may be more funding approved in late April, which could expand the sidewalk replacement work within the 1st Ward. This will likely enhance the overall accessibility and safety of the area.

Today, I attended the awards ceremony for the Berwyn Recreation Soccer League. I spoke with many parents and coaches and they are excited about the new World-Class Artificial Multi-Use Field at Janura Park. This is a big boost for our community and for the kids participating in the soccer league.

You can now register for the 2025 Spring Soccer Season.

I recently met with Finance Director Monica Martin regarding the annual independent financial audit for the City of Berwyn. GW & Associates, PC conducting the audit is a crucial step in ensuring transparency and accuracy in the city's financial operations. The final audit report, especially when aligned with Government Auditing Standards, not only assess internal controls over financial reporting but also the city's compliance with regulations, which is vital for maintaining public trust. GW & Associates, PC will start their annual audit on April 9th for the year 2024 and will present their final completed audit in summer 2025.

On February 11, 2025 City Council voted 6 to 1 in favor of the purchase of the former Berwyn State Bank building located at 6804 Windsor avenue. This historic landmark was built in 1930 and showcases it's beautiful Art Deco architecture. The City of Berwyn is taking great steps to preserve a historic piece of architecture while giving it a new purpose. The Art Deco style of the former Berwyn State Bank building adds a lot of character to the Historic Depot District. It is a project like this is aligned with my experience as a proponent of well balanced development that enhances economic growth, stimulates small business engagement and embraces residential expression in the Depot District. My continued leadership in conjunction with City partnerships will seek to identify the best and the most suited utilization of this historic site. The transformation of Depot District continues!
