The City of Bessemer Fire Department proudly congratulates Firefighter Joseph Kade Spraggins on being named the 2026 Firefighter of the Year by the Bessemer Area Chamber of Commerce!

For the past four years, Firefighter Spraggins has consistently demonstrated professionalism, compassion, integrity, and a strong commitment to serving the citizens of Bessemer. His dedication to training, leadership, and mentoring others has earned him the respect of his fellow firefighters and made him a valued member of our department.

Firefighter Spraggins remains committed to professional growth and recently completed the highly demanding Alabama Fire College Smoke Diver Program. His positive attitude, servant’s heart, and dedication to excellence represent the core values of the City of Bessemer Fire Department.

The City of Bessemer Fire Department is proud to earn the Battle of the Badges victory over the Bessemer Police Department!

Game 1: BPD 9 – BFD 7
Game 2: BFD 18 – BPD 2
Game 3: BFD 12 – BPD 11

After dropping the first game, our firefighters rallied to win the next two games and secure the victory.
