We wanted to let everyone know with the passage of SB1635, the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s office is no longer allowing projects submitted AFTER 2/1/24 to be reviewed by a third party vendor.

If you were submitted prior to that date, you are fine to stay in line at the SFM’s office or you may opt for third party review. Everyone submitted after that date must get in the queue at the back of the line.

If you are patiently waiting for the State Fire Marshal's office to complete plan review or to receive your final inspection, we know there is a lot of uncertainty with license renewals with OMMA and OBN.

One thing that can offer some peace of mind is the passage of SB 1635. This bill would allow everyone in the process to have until July 2025 to complete the process without threat of license revocation from OMMA and OBN for the COO.

To help you remember the process, bills are heard first in a committee in either the House or the Senate.

This bill originated in the Senate. It passed committee, it passed the full Senate. It moved to the House and passed committee there. It needs to be heard and passed by the full House before moving to the Governor's desk. We need Speaker McCall to allow this bill to be heard. Please call or email his office and respectfully request it be heard. Once you have done that, please call your own Representative to respectfully request that when SB 1635 is heard on the floor of the House that they vote YES.

We are monitoring this bill's journey through the system. Please stay tuned - we will let you know when it is time to encourage the Governor to sign it as well.

Red Dirt Solutions has confirmed some information regarding the two out of state companies that the State Fire Marshal has contracted with to perform third party reviews.

1. You do not have to pursue third party review. It is NOT a requirement. If you would like to expedite the process, this will assist in that endeavor.

2. If you have multiple buildings already submitted to the SFM and choose to utilize the third party review service, ALL of your buildings must be done. You cannot pull one structure from your project and leave the others with the SFM.

3. The third party reviewers have additional requirements for their plan reviews that are currently not being enforced by the SFM (such as where tables and equipment are located in each room).

For all Red Dirt clients, this is updated information to what we have already shared with you and clarifies what we have already communicated.
