🚨 Struck Cruiser 🚨

On Friday December 19th, 2025 at approximately 2124 hours, Troopers responded to I-91 northbound in the area of Exit 15 for a reported motor vehicle accident.

Trooper Berritto was seated inside his stationary cruiser in the left lane with emergency lights activated to secure the scene. While stopped, his State Police cruiser was struck by a Chevrolet Colorado. Trooper Berritto was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for further evaluation. The operator did not sustain injuries.

The operator was administered the SFST’s, which he failed, and was subsequently placed under arrest for violating C.G.S. 14-227a Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs, C.G.S. 14-240(b* Following Too Closely Resulting in a Motor Vehicle Accident, C.G.S. 14-283b(b(1 Failure to Move Over/Reduce Speed when Approaching Emergency Vehicle, and C.G.S. 14-296aa(f) Distracted Driving.

🚨Traffic Stop🚨

On 12/12/25, Troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 15 southbound, on the Exit 67 off ramp in Meriden.

An on scene investigation revealed that the operator of the motor vehicle was in possession of narcotics, including fentanyl and crack co***ne, drug paraphernalia, and $7,710 in U.S. currency.

The operator was subsequently arrested and charged in violation of C.G.S. 21a-279(a)(1) Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Offense, C.G.S. 21a-277(a)(1)(A) Sale of Narcotic Substance, C.G.S. 21a-267(a) Use of Drug Paraphernalia, C.G.S. 53a-278 Money Laundering 3rd Degree, C.G.S. 53a-64 Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, C.G.S. 14-99g(g) Operation of a Motor Vehicle With Tinted Windows Without a Tinting Sticker, C.G.S. 14-100a(c)(1) Failure to Wear Safety Seatbelt and C.G.S. 14-100a(d)(4) Failure to Properly Secure Child in a Booster Seat With a Safety Seat Belt.

The operator was assigned a $20,000 cash/surety bond which he was able to post and is scheduled to appear at GA-7, Meriden Superior Court, on 01/02/2026.

Trooper McDade and his explosive detection K9, Sparrow, graduated today from the 259th K9 Training Troop, specializing in explosive detection. Trooper McDade and K9 Sparrow were also honored with the Douglas Lancelot Outstanding Detection K9 Handler Award!

K9 Sparrow is trained to detect and alert Trooper McDade to the presence of explosives and is capable of searching for and locating military, commercial, and improvised explosive devices within buildings, passenger and commercial motor vehicles, mass-transit vehicles and venues, luggage, parcels, lockers, open areas, and even persons. Sparrow will now begin assisting law enforcement in keeping our communities safe.

Trooper McDade works patrol at Troop I and is also part of the CT State Police Bomb Squad, where K9 Sparrow will be an important asset.
