Day 1 of the 98th National FFA Convention in Indy! We made it safely before noon, got checked in and attended the first opening ceremony at 3:30. We are now headed out to eat. We left home with farm boys and now we have COWBOYS!

We have had a busy week in the Valley with several FFA events. On October 8th OV hosted the Section 16 Land Use Contest on the farm of Stan and Kathy Tipsword. We really appreciate Stan and Kathy allowing us to use their property for this annual event. A special thanks goes out to Cotner Farms, Danny and Beth Cotner for offering us the use of their farm and shed for parking. Additionally, Danny was gracious enough to dig all of our pits for the contest.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to Andy Brantner and Tammy Clayton for judging the soil pits and providing the meal for everyone. We really appreciate this as both individuals took their own personal time to help out the students during the government shutdown.

Finally, congrats to all the FFA participants on a great job. OV hosted 90 students and teachers at our event and put on a great contest. Special shout out to Kaya Forlines for finishing 9th overall.

Today the OV FFA traveled to Sullivan for the Horse Judging CDE. There were a record number of schools and students present with 15 teams and over 150 participants. Parker Wise was 5th high individual overall and the team finished 6th. Thank you to the Sullivan FFA Chapter for running such an excellent contest.

Tonight’s Okaw Valley FFA Banquet will be in the gym at 6:30. However, due to construction please use the side door to the gym to enter. The door faces the North parking lot. If anyone needs wheelchair access we can accommodate you through the front entrance if necessary. Thanks you and we can’t wait to see you all tonight.

The annual Okaw Valley FFA banquet is scheduled for May 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Gym. Griffin’s catering will be providing the meal. Mr. Wise has attached a RSVP Google form link below. Please complete the form by May 14th with the number of people you intend to bring. There is no cost for the meal.
