While we are still tallying the final numbers and handing out the last few backpacks, we couldn’t wait another moment to say THANK YOU. Because of your generosity and the support of our dedicated community partners, we’ve been able to serve more than 1,500 children this season!

Now that kids are officially back in the classroom, it’s a wonderful feeling to know they are sitting at their desks with the tools they need to focus, learn, and succeed. Whether it’s a fresh notebook, a sturdy backpack, or a set of sharpened pencils, these supplies represent so much more than just "stuff"—they represent a community that believes in their potential.

🍂 The seasons are changing, and our Free Clothing Closet is ready! 🧥

We are now officially accepting donations of fall and winter clothing to help our neighbors stay warm as the weather cools down.

If you have gently used seasonal items you’d like to pass along, please note our donation details:

📍 Where: South Hills Church of the Nazarene
📅 When: Mondays only
🕙 Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

⚠️ Holiday Note: We will be CLOSED on Monday, September 7th for Labor Day. We look forward to seeing you and accepting your donations during our regular hours starting the following Monday!

🌟 There is nothing better than seeing our community’s kids smiling bright! 🌟

We want to extend a huge thank you to for bringing their free dental clinic to our family center. It was a wonderful day filled with healthy checkups, helpful tips, and—as you can see from these photos— happy faces!

Access to dental care is so important for a child’s overall health and confidence, but it isn't always easy for families to reach. By bringing these services directly to our center, Miracle Dental is helping us break down barriers and ensure our neighbors get the care they deserve.

We are so grateful for partnerships like these that help us keep the South Hills community healthy and smiling! 🦷✨

Empty plates don't always look the same. They belong to working parents, seniors on fixed incomes, and students trying to focus in class. 🍎

As we begin this September, we’re shining a light on the 1 in 9 Allegheny County residents- including 1 in 6 children- who don't know where their next meal is coming from. With the rising cost of groceries, Feeding America estimates that local families are facing a collective $124 million annual shortfall in their food budgets.

At SHIM, we see these faces every day, and we see the resilience of our neighbors. Our mission is to ensure no one has to choose between paying rent and buying milk.

Lights, Camera, ACTION! 🎬🚁

Our summer camp got a major tech upgrade thanks to our friends at ! They brought drones, microphones, and cameras to help our campers explore the world of digital storytelling.

Ready for Kindergarten! 🍎✨

We had an incredible time helping our students and parents prepare for the big leap into kindergarten! Our goal was to encourage parents to dive into learning right alongside their children, exploring new and interesting topics just like they will in the classroom.

A huge thank you to Miss Cristen from the Public Library for leading two fantastic sessions! We practiced essential academic skills like letter, shape, and number recognition through fun hands-on activities. We also went on a musical journey, exploring sounds and even crafting our own simple instruments. 🎶

To keep the learning going, every family received a Kindergarten Readiness take-home kit during our final session! 🎒

Of course, we made sure to celebrate our hard work with a pizza party where parents, teachers, and families could connect and build community. We wrapped everything up with a very special ice cream party! 🍦🍕

Serving looks and spreading smiles! 🏐🌸

A huge thank you to the Jefferson Hills volleyball team for stopping by SHIM before heading back to school! The team spent some quality time bonding while arranging beautiful bouquets alongside our volunteer engagement coordinator, Ann.

But the magic didn't stop there—the athletes then delivered those flowers to our neighbors to share a little extra joy and community spirit. 💖

Good luck on the court and in the classroom this season, ladies! Thank you for being such wonderful teammates to your neighbors.
