It is with great sadness that AVCP Regional Housing Authority extends its deepest condolences on the passing of Robert Nick.

Robert was a respected leader, elder, and one of the most influential voices in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. He was pivotal during the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act era and dedicated his life to serving the people of the region.

For more than two decades, Robert served as a Commissioner on the AVCP-RHA Board of Commissioners. Alongside his friend and fellow Commissioner, Moses White of Kasigluk, he was one of the longest-serving board members in the history of our organization. Together, they helped guide AVCP-RHA through decades of growth while advocating for affordable housing opportunities throughout the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

Today, we honor Robert's legacy and the tremendous impact he made on our communities. We take comfort in knowing that he has now joined his longtime friend and fellow Commissioner, Moses White. Together, they leave behind a legacy of service, leadership, and dedication that will continue to inspire future generations.

In honor of Robert's service and friendship, members of the current AVCP-RHA Board of Commissioners will be traveling to Nunapitchuk to attend his funeral and pay their respects.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Robert's family, friends, and the community of Nunapitchuk during this difficult time.

Spring cleaning has arrived at AVCP-RHA.

Today, staff participated in our Clean-Up / Green-Up event to help beautify our properties and community spaces throughout Bethel. Thank you to all of our employees who took the time to help clean around our office buildings, Lulu Heron, and Ayalpik apartments.

We challenge other organizations and Bethel residents to join in and help keep our community clean and beautiful this spring.

Yesterday, AVCP-RHA President/CEO Jack Crow met with the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), FEMA, YKHC, and Alaska DHSEM to discuss current operations in communities impacted by Typhoon Halong and to identify ways we can improve coordination and response efforts moving forward should an event like this happen again.

Thank you to YKHC for hosting the meeting, and thank you to the state and federal agencies for traveling to Bethel and Kipnuk to see conditions firsthand and meet directly with local agencies and community representatives.

AVCP-RHA participated in Part II of the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs field hearing in Bethel, continuing important discussions on disaster response, recovery, and long-term resilience following Typhoon Halong.

The day began with a field hearing featuring panelists from tribal, state, and federal agencies who provided updates on ongoing efforts, shared progress, and discussed how response and recovery can be improved moving forward.

The hearing concluded with a Tribal Leader listening session, where leaders from across the region shared powerful stories and perspectives based on their communities’ experiences. Their input emphasized the importance of advancing solutions that reflect Tribal sovereignty, local knowledge, and long-term community needs.

Thank you to Senator Lisa Murkowski, Chair of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, for coming to Bethel and for her continued advocacy on behalf of our region.

Today in Anchorage, the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs held Part I of a two-part field hearing focused on disaster impacts, recovery, and resilience following Typhoon Halong.

AVCP-RHA was proud to have President/CEO Jack Crow and Board Commissioner Stephen Maxie Jr. in attendance, supporting the voices of Tribal leadership from Kipnuk and Kwigillingok as they shared their experiences and the challenges their communities continue to face.

These discussions are critical as we continue advocating for stronger federal response, improved coordination, and long-term, community-driven solutions across the region.

Part II will take place tomorrow in Bethel, where the focus will shift to strengthening federal programs, improving disaster response, and supporting Tribal resilience and potential relocation efforts.
Community members and Tribal leaders are encouraged to attend and participate in this important conversation.

AVCP-RHA’s 23rd Annual Housing Conference Recap:

We were proud to welcome 24 tribal delegates in person and 15 participants virtually for a powerful day of connection, updates, and collaboration.

This year’s theme, “Resilient Together: Rebuilding Homes, Restoring Communities,” truly came to life as we shared how we’re responding to environmental challenges while continuing our mission of building safe, affordable housing across the Y-K Delta.

Huge shoutout to our staff — both those presenting and the team working behind the scenes for months to make this event happen.

Thank you to our Board of Commissioners for your leadership, and to our tribal delegates for making the trip to Bethel and engaging in meaningful conversations.

We also appreciate our partners ONAP, AHFC, and CITC, and a big thank you to our sponsors: AHFC, LCG Lantech, Bethel VFW, ANTHC, and Grant Aviation.

Quyana to everyone who made this conference a success!
