The Daniel Boone National Forest plans to conduct a prescribed burn on roughly 950 acres in Rowan County, Tuesday, April 7.
📍Operations are planned in the Scott Creek burn unit across KY801 from Twin K***s Campground and Cave Run Lake.
⛔ The impacted area, including Scott Creek Road, Limestone Road and portions of Lockegee Road and Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail, will be closed during active operations and may remain closed for several days to ensure all fire operations have been successfully completed. Contact the Cumberland District Office or check our website to confirm that the area has reopened to visitors.
⚠️Smoke is expected to move south towards Zilpo Campground and Cave Run Lake and may be visible along nearby roads like KY 801. Slow down and turn on your low beams to become more visible if you encounter smoke while driving.
Prescribed fire reduces hazardous fuels, improves forest health and supports habitat for native wildlife. Applying low-intensity fire under the right conditions also helps lower the risk of severe wildfires in the future.
