Our very own Darrien Smith, Assistant Program Manager, is heading to the Olympics USA Games in Minnesota this week as the Coach of Connecticut's Bowling Team!

"I was chosen and extremely honored to represent Team Connecticut as the 2026 Bowling Coach from Connecticut! The team and I have been practicing two times a week since October and have been through a lot of trainings to maintain healthy living and bond as a team."

The four athletes competing were selected from all across Connecticut. From training, fundraising, registering athletes and getting to know them to designing the uniforms, Darrien has devoted a lot of time to Team Connecticut while still spending time with his family and work family at Ability Beyond.

Ability Beyond CEO Jane Davis celebrated with staff members during a service award ceremony honoring Direct Care Professionals who were nominated by their managers for going above and beyond in their care for I/DD adults with disabilities.

Five professionals from our New York and Connecticut teams were nominated for the annual ANCOR DSP of the Year award for their commitment and compassion. Kumia Lott, Assistant Program Manager, earned Connecticut State DSP of the Year!

We are proud of our amazing team members for their accomplishments!

We are thrilled to celebrate Kumia Lott, Assistant Program Manager with Ability Beyond, who was named Connecticut State Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Year!

Kumia was recognized on April 23rd during ANCOR's annual professional conference in Boston and is featured in ANCOR's publication Recognizing Excellence 2026. ANCOR is the leading voice for community-based providers of intellectual and developmental disabilities services.

Last Friday members of our Adult Day and Career Development programs participated in a panel presentation for Scarsdale High School students. They spoke about challenges, strengths, and offered advice for how to be an ally for people with disabilities.
