Cultural Week at Zacharias John Williams Memorial School was a powerful celebration of identity, purpose, and hands-on learning. Our 7th–9th-grade students participated in an impactful workshop, “Pushing Purpose,” led by Derrick Moore of Hardaway Learning. Students engaged in meaningful conversations about accountability, focus, and what it means to become the best version of themselves—both in school and beyond.
Our younger learners also had an enriching cultural experience with Golga Oscar, an artist-in-residence from the University of Alaska Kuskokwim Campus in Bethel, Alaska. Working with our 3rd-grade class, students explored traditional Yup’ik artistry by creating ruffs, headdresses, and necklaces, deepening their connection to culture through creativity and craftsmanship.
Cultural Week continues to highlight the importance of community, cultural knowledge, and empowering our students to take pride in who they are and who they are becoming.
