As a companion caregiver I wear many hats. Today I am ‘remotely’ helping him put on his new OtterBox IPhone cover via text. His old one was falling apart which began to affect his ability to use basic buttons such as ringer volume, Siri, powering up or down. Not able to hear calls coming in that would go straight to voicemail very stressful. Panic ensued! Brother Stanley leaving voicemails wondering what’s wrong. My client is an enthusiastic divice user, but his manual dexterity & aging vision affect his ability to navigate these issues. Challenging new interfaces can be problematic for all of us. I was glad to provide some after hours help so he could feel the satisfaction of ‘all systems go.’ 📱🚦😀

There is something so magnificent about letting my elder client ‘steer’ the afternoon. Today we enjoyed the great indoors with a shopping trip to Westfield Montgomery Mall. Clean cool air was a big thumbs up, and a weekday afternoon trip gave us just the amount of social activity & people watching he enjoys! A leisurely pace at the food court…so refreshing. I felt happy to furnish this simple opportunity we often take for granted. I don’t frequent mall food courts but today was special! (Photos used with permission.)

Today I accompanied my client to his new Physical Therapy Office. As a life long sports and workout enthusiast, he wanted to reclaim what was once his before a major medical event threw in some frustrating speed bumps! He wanted the green light, but we had to do some ‘leg work’ to get to the starting gate. PT orders from a small army of his wonderful doctors, each chiming in about goals to help him become a stronger better version of himself. I wear many hats, but my favorite one is cheering on these wonderful clients who become my good friends! The PT office printer was down, so I videotaped the excersizes so he could start practicing back at his apartment with one of the physical therapists at his apartment at Brightview Senior Living.

A trip with a client I have looked forward to for so long; Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum. Huge, cool airy hanger like facility with so much gorgeous aeronautics! Added bonus: seeing flights takeoff and from Dulles.🛩🌍✈️
