Full scale voter suppression. This is un-American.

1,688 polling places closed since 2012 in states previously subject to Voting Rights Act:
-750 in Texas
-320 in Arizona
-214 in Georgia
-126 in Louisiana
-96 in Mississippi
-72 in Alabama

Most of them are in minority communities.

The most important race that nobody is talking about (but should be). Arizona deserves a Secretary of State who is committed to protecting the right to vote. But Steve Gaynor wants to repeal part of the Voting Rights Act, and he would end multi-language ballots.

Katie Hobbs is the clear choice for SOS, so it is good to see the Arizona Republic agree!

Arizona needs to know the state's second-in-command will do the job well. And in this race, we can only say that about one person.

Anyone surprised?

"After reading this, I see that it wasn’t just a matter of investigating President Trump's claims that three to five million people voted illegally, but the goal of the commission seems to have been to validate those claims,” Matthew Dunlap told The Washington Post.

Kris Kobach -- the hapless voter fraud evangelist who was one of the leaders of Trump's short-lived voter suppression commission -- was just admonished by a court for his voter suppression efforts as well as his general incompetence. It's tempting to laugh at him for being such a buffoon, but don't let that distract you from the seriousness of the issue. He's a leading contender for Governor of Kansas in November.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach isn't giving up on his unfair, vote-suppressing law just because a federal judge has found it unconstitutional. He can't, because that's what the Republican gubernatorial candidate is running on.

Some elected officials want to disenfranchise you if you don't vote often enough. Since when are Constitutional rights use-it-or-lose-it? Guessing these same officials aren't planning to make it harder for you to buy a gun if you go long enough without purchasing one.

The Supreme Court is allowing Ohio to clean up its voting rolls by targeting people who haven't cast ballots in a while.

A big win for democracy in Alaska!

About 80,000 ballots had been received by elections officials at the end of the day Wednesday, thousands more than the high-turnout 2012 election.

Elections have consequences. One special election victory last November has put Washington state on a different course. Automatic Voter Registration. Election-day registration. Pre-registration for 16- and 17-year olds. And a state Voting Rights Act. WOW!

Washington state is leading the pushback against national moves to curtail ballot access.
