New research in Nature Medicine featuring NINDS funded clinical testing highlights the promise of a more targeted approach to treating myasthenia gravis.

Two complementary studies report that a short course of a novel RNA-based CAR-T cell therapy led to durable clinical improvement in people with generalized myasthenia gravis—without the broad immune suppression often associated with conventional CAR-T treatments. The outpatient therapy was associated with sustained symptom improvement while preserving the protective immune response.

These findings advance our understanding of how precision cell therapies may offer safer, more accessible treatment options for myasthenia gravis and other neurological autoimmune disorders.

3rd Semi-Annual PURPOSE Meeting

This year’s meeting is being held in conjunction with the USASP Early Career Forum, preceding the USASP Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

Did you know? NINDS F32 applications do not require preliminary data! In fact, NINDS strongly discourages preliminary data in the program announcement. Rather, applications should focus on innovative research ideas and thoughtful plans for training and mentorship. The next due date is Feb 9, 2026.

In April 2024, NINDS brought together stakeholders to evaluate the gap between the current understanding of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and the development of therapeutics for treating PD. The report from the workshop is officially published!

The workshop identified key scientific and translational priorities needed to advance disease-modifying therapies for Parkinson’s disease. Areas of focus may include improving understanding of disease heterogeneity, strengthening biomarker development, refining therapeutic target validation, and best practices for therapeutic development.

This roadmap, for and from the PD community, highlights opportunities to better align research efforts and accelerate progress toward more effective treatments for people living with Parkinson’s disease.
