Nitschmann Middle School Nitschmann Middle School is one of four middle schools in the Bethlehem Area School District, servin Felled the first tree for the first house of Bethlehem.

Nitschmann Middle School is named after David Nitschmann, known by the first settlers of the community as the founder of Bethlehem, born September 18, 1676 in Moravia, died April 14, 1758 in Bethlehem. "Above the time of the shortest day" December 21, 1740 and was the leader in the construction of all the buildings erected in the settlement in course of the next six years. A veteran missionary and

a man of great energy and character, diligence and astonishing powers of endurance, he was know among the early settlers of Betlehem as, "friend and joy of all men."
