Bethlehem Seed Library

Bethlehem Seed Library Our goal is to promote the growing and saving of open-pollinated seeds in our town and region.

The Public Library of Bethlehem, Connecticut, the Bethlehem Conservation Commission and interested citizens, started a Seed Library in 2014. We had over 50 citizens participate in the first year, and many new comers in 2015. The goal is to promote the growing and saving of open-pollinated seeds in our town and region. People will be invited to "borrow" seeds from the library at the start of the gr

owing season and to save seeds from what they harvest, to be returned to the library later on. This is a model that has been tried out in many parts of the country. Our goal is to contribute the saving of seeds that are not genetically modified, and that are, over time, proven to be most suitable for our bioregion. We are building a collection and repository, educating members about the practice of seed-saving and creating a local community of seed-saving gardeners. We seek to preserve genetic diversity, safeguard alternatives to GMO's and empower all members through a deeper connection with nature and the experience of self-reliance. We strive for excellence, knowing the preservation of seed is a sacred trust.
