For Emergencies, Call 911

Bethlehem Ambulance is a Basic Life Support provider. Each time the ambulance goes out, it is staffed by a crew of at least one trained, certified and licensed EMT-B ( Emergency Medical Technician-Basic ), and at least one licensed MRT ( Medical Response Technician ). Our crews typically consist of three people, an EMT, an MRT and a driver. The Association encourages all

its members to achieve an EMT license. The testing and licensing requirements for Bethlehem Ambulance EMT-B's are identical to those for any ambulance service operating in Connecticut, whether volunteer or paid. Advanced Life Support

In addition to the Basic Life Support services provided by your neighbors who train and volunteer for the ambulance, Advanced Life Support services are provided by Paramedics from professional, paid ambulance services. Paramedics either go to the scene or meet the Bethlehem Ambulance en-route to the hospital and travel on our ambulance to treat patients on the way to the hospital. With the Paramedic intercept program, seriously ill or injured patients quickly receive advanced life-saving treatments.

Incredibly proud to have this service available to the Bethlehem community! According to the National Institutes of Health, Trauma is a leading cause of death worldwide, with uncontrolled hemorrhage responsible for 30–40% of trauma mortality. It is the primary cause of early, preventable trauma deaths, with over 60,000 deaths annually in the US and 1.5 million globally. About 1 in 3 trauma victims could be saved with faster, improved care, as many deaths occur within 3 hours.

When you dial 911 in Bethlehem, you will be most likely connected with a skilled 911 call taker from Northwest Connecticut Public Safety Communication Center. They are simply the best. They juggle chaos with composure, provide life-saving instructions to those experiencing emergencies, and guide help to where it has to go. Without them, there would be no 911 system. This week and every week we give many thanks for their work, that too often goes unsung.
Happy National Telecommunicator Week!

This week, as we observe National Telecommunicator Week, we want to take a moment to shine a light on the incredible team right here at NWCTPS Communication Center and all of our colleagues across the country.

Our telecommunicators are truly The Lifeline Behind the Call. When seconds count, they are the first voice you hear, the steady hand that coordinates help, provides life-saving instructions, and ensures our field responders arrive safely.

It’s easy for this critical work to go unsung because it’s often unseen, but we see it every single day. The commitment, the expertise, and the genuine compassion they bring to the job make all the difference for our communities.

To our NWCTPS staff and all public safety telecommunicators: Thank you for your unwavering service. We see you, we value you, and we thank you.

Happy National Telecommunicator Week!

🫀Bethlehem Ambulance Association’s First BLS STEMI Transmission🫀

On March 3, 2026 Ambulance 10-4 was on a Mutual Aid call in a surrounding town providing Emergency Medical Care. Simultaneously, a second call for service was toned out - meaning a full second crew needed to “scramble” for our second Ambulance. Roads were treacherous due to an ice and snow mixture. Within minutes, Ambulance 10-2 responded with a full crew (consisting of Vera Rosa, Lisa Mahon, Nathan Potts, and Travis Smith).

Upon 10-2 arriving on the scene of the second emergency, it quickly became apparent how critically ill this patient was. It was also clearly evident that a BLS 12 Lead EKG was warranted.

Impressively, within the 5-6 minute mark of being on scene, life saving emergency interventions were preformed and a BLS 12 Lead EKG was acquired and transmitted to a local Cardiac Center. The BLS 12 Lead EKG showed evidence that a significant cardiac event was taking place - and that “time was heart.”

Upon the local Cardiac Center receiving and reviewing the BLS 12 Lead EKG results that they received in real time (while this crew was on the scene) the Medical Facility placed their Cath Lab Team on “Stand-By.”

HHC Northwest Paramedics Medic 1 was intercepted for Advanced Life Support Services and the patient was transported to an area Cardiac Center.

This patient had 100% occlusion of a Coronary Artery. Cardiac Stent(s) were being placed in less than 60 minutes after EMS arrived at the Hospital. This patient is expected to make a full and complete recovery!

Having BLS 12 Lead EKG acquisition and transmission capabilities in a rural setting arguably saved this patient’s life.
