It’s podcast release day! 🎙️

June 30th is Social Media Awareness Day, and if you have been listening to The Prevention Platform, you know this is a topic that keeps coming up. From stress, to mental health to prevention, social media and technology are always part of our conversations, so we wanted to take a deeper dive!

In this episode, we are joined by Kirstin McGowan, a parent advocate and co-lead of PA Unplugged. As a mom of two, a co-lead of the Wait Until 8th Central Bucks Chapter, and a leader of statewide advocacy efforts, Kirstin brings a practical, data-driven perspective on helping kids thrive socially, emotionally and academically in a tech heavy world.

Our 2nd Annual Central PA Golf Tournament is just a few months away! Taking place at Hershey Country Club on Monday, September 21, 2026, we have the privilege of honoring Michael R. Wilson, President and CEO of Members 1st Federal Credit Union, at the event.

Chaired by Wes Reohr of our Presenting Sponsor Capital Blue Cross, this tournament will raise vital funds for our programs and services in the Central PA region. It is one of our fastest growing regions, highlighting both our success at reaching youth in the area as well as the increased needs.

This video highlights our inaugural edition of the event, when we raised over $226,000 for Valley Youth House. Let’s beat that number together!

Today we're highlighting two women in leadership at Valley Youth House, as well as a story of pure serendipity!

Christina J. Schoemaker, MBA, CFRE., Senior Vice President of Advancement, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Women's Business Council Lehigh Valley's Women's Summit, and Destiny Jarnagan, VYH Life Skills Counselor/Family Advocate, will also be attending as a proud recipient of the Invest in Her Fund (https://www.lehighvalleychamber.org/invest-in-her-fund.html)

Destiny first learned about the Summit while speaking at our Setting the Stage with Rod Stewart event. There, she met Hannah Votta Coleman of Joyful Giving (and the Summit's Emcee), who encouraged Destiny to apply for the fund.

Meanwhile, Christina was already planning to donate to the Invest in Her Fund—paying it forward in gratitude for a scholarship she received from the Women’s Business Council earlier in her own career!

This incredible connection is a microcosm of exactly what the Summit is about: women supporting women, strengthening networks, and building the leaders of tomorrow.

Presented by The Women’s Business Council of the Lehigh Valley Chamber, Cedar Crest College, and United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, there is still time to grab your tickets:

Last week, we had the pleasure of holding our 2026 Annual Meeting at the Lehigh Country Club in Allentown, PA! The event brought together board members, staff and community partners to reflect on the past year and share plans for what’s ahead.

Members of our Leadership Team and Board presented a comprehensive program, highlighting the agency’s 2025 financial report and previewing an exciting lineup of upcoming events.

Attendees were also given a snapshot of the agency’s 2025 program outcomes, illustrating the scope and impact of services provided across the region.

In honor of the country’s 250th anniversary, this year's program was titled, "The Road to Independence." The title mirrors the core mission of Valley Youth House to guide and support vulnerable young people as they navigate their own individual journeys toward stability and self-sufficiency.

Bringing this theme to life, guests heard inspiring remarks from three youth speakers, Angelize, Roseylee, and Aniya, who shared their unique stories of finding their own roads to independence with the support and guidance of Valley Youth House staff.

In a fitting conclusion to the event, the Mission Impact Award was presented to all three of these courageous young speakers.

It was an incredible, inspiring event, and we want to thank all who attended and who continue to be a part of the amazing community we’re building!

Thanks to the Punk Rock Flea Market at the Ice House in Bethlehem, our Lehigh Valley Shelter received hundreds of donated hygiene items! We received everything from toothpaste to soap to deodorant and so much more thanks to the generosity of our community. These items will directly support our residents at the Lehigh Valley Shelter, a shelter that has been housing youth in crisis every day since 1973.

Thank you to the Punk Rock Flea Market for hosting this aid drive and to all who donated!

Recently, we were lucky enough to be joined by some of our Champions for Youth at Camp Fowler! This event gave us the opportunity to recognize them for their generous contributions to Valley Youth House, while also giving them the chance to experience our new Carter Family Center and tour the other amenities that Camp Fowler provides.

We want to thank Michael J. Fischer and Client 1st Financial for sponsoring the event, as well as all the Champions for Youth members who spent their time with us. It was a wonderful experience being together with you all and we are already looking forward to our next gathering!

Our Champions for Youth are donors who give $1,000+ to Valley Youth House annually. For more info, including the various donation levels you can be a part of and their many perks, use the link below.
