Please, recycle your plastic bags at the retailer, not in the recycling cart.

Recycle Right by avoiding wish-cycling!

Plastic bags, garden hoses, hangers, and string lights get tangled in our sorting system and should be thrown in the garbage or in the case of plastic bags, recycled at a retailer. Straws and plastic utensils are too small to be sorted and made of low-quality material that can't be recycled. We'll accept string lights all year long at the Electronics Recovery Center. Stryofoam, pet food bags, and other items that are a mix of materials aren't recyclable via our program. We don't know of any local styrofoam recyclers, so we suggest reuse or throwing it in the garbage. Some pet stores recycle pet food bags, but remember, when in doubt, throw it out!

Did you know Bettendorf allows used lawn mowers to be picked up as Bulky Waste? Just empty it of all fluids and set it out on your regular Bulky Waste day! Learn more about Bulky Waste at www.bettendorf.org/BulkyWaste

Did you upgrade your mower by choice or by necessity?

There are a few options for disposing of gas-powered engines, like lawn mowers and snowblowers, after you empty the oil and gas.
1. Reuse by donating or selling (if it's still usable)
2. Bulky Waste (check with your hauler before leaving it outside)
3. Drop at the Scott Area Landfill for a fee

Have a battery-powered mower? Recycle batteries at the Electronics Recovery Center!
