Hands-on STEM learning is in full swing for homeschool students at the Scott County Library's Eldridge Branch!

Through a partnership with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, homeschoolers are exploring science while learning the Engineering Design Process through engaging, hands-on activities.

Students have put their problem-solving skills to the test with a variety of activities, including Hex Bugs, Detective Science, Environmental Explorers, and World of Winter. Each experience challenges youth to ask questions, investigate solutions, create designs, test ideas, and improve their results, just like real engineers and scientists.

By combining creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on exploration, these programs help homeschool students build confidence while discovering the exciting world of STEM.

4-H Focuses on Learning in Full Bloom 🌸

Scott County 4-H members recently had the opportunity to participate in a flower arranging workshop hosted by The Little Red Barn in Davenport, Iowa.

During the workshop, youth learned how to properly select and harvest blooms from the field and techniques for creating beautiful floral arrangements and bouquets. Members explored different styles of arrangements while gaining hands-on experience and creativity skills along the way.

Experiences like these highlight the value of partnering with local businesses. Community partners help create opportunities for our 4-H members to explore new interests, develop practical skills, and discover potential future careers they may not otherwise have the chance to experience.

A huge thank you to The Little Red Barn for sharing their expertise and helping our youth learn, create, and grow!

4-H Is for Every Youth

When people hear 4-H, they think of farms and livestock. While agriculture is an important part of our program, 4-H is so much more. 4-H welcomes youth of all backgrounds and interests, offering opportunities in leadership, STEM, arts, healthy living, community service, communication, and countless hands-on experiences.

Our goal is simple: prepare young people for the future and help them become Beyond Ready for whatever comes after high school. Through 4-H, youth gain the confidence, skills, and real-world experiences that colleges, employers, and communities value.

National 4-H data shows that compared to their peers, 4-H members are:
✅2 times more likely to have the goal of being a leader
✅3 times more likely to participate in community service
✅2 times more likely to report living with purpose and intentionality.

Whether your child is interested in science, public speaking, photography, coding, community leadership, or agriculture, there is a place for them in 4-H.
