Remember: Black bears in Colorado are currently in hyperphagia, spending most of their time searching for food to fatten up for winter. If they rely on human food sources like trash, birdseed, or pet food, they can become too comfortable around people, leading to conflicts with humans. Please don’t feed the bears.

If you pre-ordered a plastic bear resistant trash can, they have arrived. Due to the fire we got behind on getting these delivered. We will be working in the coming weeks to get these out. If you have the ability to pick yours up, please stop down to Station 1 and we can help load it for you.

Here is an update on the little bear that was captured off of Pennsylvania. He went in very malnourished and today is looking great! He will be released back into the wild this fall after some more growth.

Has anyone seen Momma Bear and her 3 cubs over the past few days? Unfortunately one of her cubs was found dead this morning and the other 2 cubs are critically ill from what appears to be a poisoning. The cubs have been taken to rehab and a vet is evaluating them. Momma seems to be healthy but in distress looking for her cubs.

We are trying to determine where the bears have been over the past few days to see if we can find the source.

THIS is why we need humans to take better care of the environment that we live in and keep their trash put away until the morning of pick up.

For those who have been asking and following the story of the little malnourished bear that was trapped and sent to rehab, below are the pictures from Day 1 and now just 16 days later. The folks at Wet Mountain Wildlife are true miracle workers and without dedicated groups like them, this little guy would not have made it. We spoke with them today and this bear is eating ALOT of food, as he should be. If you would want to help in his recovery, you can send checks to them at Wet Mountain Wildlife, 743 Crestview Dr Florence CO 81226. They are a tax exempt organization and your donation is a tax write off.
