Junior firefighter, Alex Baize was recently able to do a ride along with AirLife out of Olney. Alex, who is the daughter of Assistant Chief, Dusty Baize, has grown up around the fire department. At just 16 she has already successfully become certified as an EMR. Alex plans to continue her medical path, with hopes of eventually becoming a flight medic.

Alex is proof that even well before you graduate, becoming a junior firefighter has many opportunities that can help build your future.

We are always looking to help build the futures of our youth. Our junior firefighter program is designed to offer training, guidance, and more.

We are always looking for new members, juniors, or volunteer firefighters. This is a reoccurring theme across the nation. If volunteer numbers don’t start to increase soon there will be a need for departments to look at consolidation and merges to combine resources.

We do way more than fire -we offer medical coverage and many different types of rescue capabilities. So come sign up today and help us build the future!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 8, 2026

Knox County EMA Advises Elevated Fire Weather Conditions for Thursday Afternoon, April 9, 2026.

VINCENNES, IN — The Knox County Emergency Management Agency is advising residents of elevated fire weather conditions expected Thursday afternoon across Knox County and surrounding areas, based on a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service.

Forecast conditions include low relative humidity values between 25–30 percent, southwest wind gusts of 15 to 30 mph, and drying vegetation, all of which can contribute to the rapid ignition and spread of fires—particularly in grass, brush, and agricultural fields.

While a Red Flag Warning has not been issued, these conditions are considered elevated to near-critical and warrant increased awareness and precaution.

Residents are strongly encouraged to take the following safety measures:

Avoid outdoor burning if possible

Use extreme caution with equipment that may generate sparks

Do not park vehicles in tall or dry grass

Properly discard smoking materials

Report any fires immediately to local authorities

“Even without a formal warning, these conditions can allow fires to start easily and spread quickly,” said Knox County EMA. “Taking simple precautions can help prevent avoidable incidents.”

Knox County EMA will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official sources and ensure they have multiple ways to receive emergency notifications.

We would like to congratulate Blake on becoming the newest member on the department to complete their FF 1&2 certifications. Blake has spent the last few months becoming certified in Hazmat awareness and Operations, and Firefighter 1&2.

Did you know that training is 100% paid for by the department? Today is a great day to start volunteering!

Tonight we had the honor of presenting Blake Cleveland with our firefighter of the year award. Blake is an NR-EMT and recently became a certified Fire Investigator in Indiana. He is also currently taking a fire fighter 1&2 Academy. Blake has been a dedicated member to the department and we look forward to his continued growth.
