May 10th – 16th, 2026, is designated as National Police Week. Originally established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes National Peace Officers Memorial Day (May 15) and a week of observances recognizing officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, including those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage.
We pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of law enforcement officers across the country — especially those officers who served the Biddeford Police Department and are no longer with us, but whose impact continues to be felt every day.
This week, we remember those from our family:
Patrolman Joseph Goulet EOW: June 15, 1920
Patrolman Honore Dutremble EOW: April 8, 1932
Patrolman Jean C. Mondville EOW: October 29, 1966
Detective Peter R. Wentworth EOW: September 11, 2016
Sergeant Jacob C. Wolterbeek EOW: December 12, 2024
Sergeant William J. Buhelt EOW: July 23, 2025
In law enforcement, when one officer falls, every officer feels it. The loss is never carried by one family, one department, or one community alone — it is shared by brothers and sisters across the badge. The grief, the memories, and the sacrifice reach far beyond a single agency, reminding us all of the bond that unites those who serve.
During National Police Week, we honor their memory, their service, and the lasting mark they left on all of us. Gone, but never forgotten.
