MEDIA STATEMENT: This evening shortly before 7:00pm the Biddeford Regional Communications Center received a 911 call for a building fire at #25 Clifford Street.

Biddeford Fire Department Car 7, Engine 22, Truck 32, EMS 14, Car 2 and Car 1 along with an Engine from Arundel, an Engine from S**o, an Ambulance from Goodwins Mills and an Engine from Old Orchard Beach were dispatched on the Desk Box assignment. An Engine from Sanford and an Ambulance from Scarborough covered the Biddeford Central Fire Station.

Biddeford units arrived on-scene 3 minutes later and found smoke coming from the outside porches of a 3-story wood frame apartment building. Engine 22 stretched a hose line and began extinguishing the fire, which had extended into the wall of the apartment building on the first floor and below the floor of the porches. A passerby also attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose prior to BFD arrival. The fire was primarily contained to the porches with some smoke extending into all the apartments.

All the occupants from had evacuated just prior to the arrival of the first Biddeford Fire units Searches of all three apartments were performed to confirm everyone was able to get outside. The apartment building was evaluated for safety by the Code Enforcement Department and Fire Department, and it was determined the occupants could return to their apartments for the night if they choose to do so.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews cleared the scene around 8:45pm.

This building fire was the 12th emergency call of the day since 8:00am this morning for the BFD. During this fire, the covering units responded to an EMS incident.

This is the second porch fire in the City of Biddeford this week. Please remember fire safety and proper disposal of any smoking materials. Also, please remember that working smoke detectors save lives. Make sure yours are in place and working. We have had three close calls this week with building fires that could have easily ended in a tragedy if the fires had not been noticed early by those that lived there and everyone was sleeping. Stay safe!

Thank you to our mutual partners for your assistance! We appreciate it!

As the nation celebrates National EMS Week (May 17-23), the City of Biddeford recognizes the dedicated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals of the Biddeford Fire Department for their essential role in protecting community health and safety.

In 2025, Biddeford Fire Department members responded to nearly 4,400 EMS incidents, operating two full time ambulances and a paramedic intercept unit to ensure rapid, high quality medical response throughout the city. The Department’s EMS team includes 51 licensed providers, including the Department’s three Chiefs. Of these professionals, 33 are Paramedics, 12 are Advanced EMTs, and 5 are EMTs.

In addition to responding to emergencies, the Biddeford Fire Department is committed to empowering the public with lifesaving skills that support the EMS system, fitting with this year's EMS Week theme of "Improving Outcomes, Together". The Department offers 24 CPR classes per year, training an average of 288 community members annually. Early recognition of cardiac arrest, calling 911, and performing bystander CPR dramatically improve survival rates – and in the past year, Biddeford has seen multiple cases in which quick actions from bystanders directly contributed to positive patient outcomes.

MEDIA STATEMENT- This morning shortly after 5:30am the Biddeford Regional Communications Center received a 911 call for a building fire at #49 Granite Street.

Biddeford Fire Department Car 7, Engine 22, Squad 28 and EMS 14, along with an Engine from Arundel, an Engine, Ambulance and Ladder Truck from S**o, an Engine from Goodwins Mills and an Engine from Old Orchard Beach were dispatched on the Desk Box assignment.

Biddeford units arrived on-scene 2 minutes later and found heavy fire coming from the second-floor apartment in the rear of the building. An All-Hands fire assignment was requested which brought an Engine from Kennebunk, a Tanker from Kennebunkport and a Ladder truck from Goodwins Mills to the scene; and an Engine from Wells, an Engine from Scarborough and an Ambulance from Westbrook to cover the Biddeford Station, along with off-duty Biddeford firefighters being called back to cover as well. The Ladder Truck from Goodwins Mills was a special call/back fill because Biddeford’s Truck 32 was out of service with a mechanical issue.

All 6 occupants from the second-floor apartment and 3 occupants from the first-floor unit had evacuated just prior to the arrival of the first Biddeford Fire units. All 9 people were displaced and are being assisted by Red-Cross and the City’s General Assistance Office with housing and other needs.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the second floor, but the fire caused heavy damage to the apartment and extended into the roof.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews cleared the scene around 8:00am.

During this fire, the covering units responded to an EMS incident for an unresponsive patient.

Thank you to our mutual partners for your assistance! We appreciate it!
