Springfield Township Fire had a very busy night. We don’t recap all of our run reports, but last night was one worth sharing.
We started around 0200 with a structure fire and a car fire. Around 0445, we were dispatched to yet another fully involved structure fire. Finally, at 0730, we were sent to a structure fire that was spreading to an adjacent dwelling.
Most of us went through the night with little to no sleep—some even heading straight to work afterward. The level of dedication shown is sometimes overwhelming to witness.
By the third call, we were running short on both steam and manpower, as about half of our members had to leave for work. At that point, we requested mutual aid. A huge thank you to D7 Vinton Fire for responding and jumping right into action—the help could not have come at a better time.
We’d also like to extend our gratitude to D4 Rio Fire, who had units on standby and ready to roll if additional support was needed.
Membership is down across most volunteer departments, and this is exactly the kind of dedication and cooperation it will take for all of us to weather the shortage.
