🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from the Big Rock Fire Protection District!

Today, we celebrate our nation’s freedom, history, and the community we are so proud to protect. Whether you are firing up the grill, heading to a parade, or gathering with family, we hope you have a spectacular and safe Independence Day!

To keep the fireworks limited to the sky, please keep these quick safety tips in mind:

• Leave it to the pros: The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display handled by professionals.

• Keep your distance: If legal consumer fireworks are part of your celebration, always clear a wide, flat area away from houses, dry grass (thankfully this shouldn't be a problem 😅), and brush.

• Douse them completely: Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby. Submerge all used fireworks in water before tossing them in the trash.

• Watch the little ones: Even sparklers burn hot enough to melt copper!

Our crews are on duty 24/7 today, just like any other day, to ensure our community stays safe. If you need us, we’ll be there.

Have a happy, healthy, and safe 4th of July! 🇺🇸

It’s National EMS Week! 🚑

May 17–23 is National EMS Week, and this year’s theme is "Improving Outcomes, Together." This week, we recognize the incredible dedication of the EMTs and Paramedics who serve the Big Rock Fire Protection District. From training to seamless teamwork on the scene, every effort is focused on one goal: delivering the best possible care to our neighbors when it matters most.

To our EMS crews: thank you for your dedication, your expertise, and the compassion you show to our neighbors during their toughest moments.

👉 How you can celebrate with us this week:
1. Drop a comment below thanking an EMT or Paramedic!
2. Slow down and move to the right when you see emergency lights on the road.
3. Learn bystander life-saving skills like CPR and Stop the Bleed. (Our next community CPR class is 7/28!)

🧠 May is National Stroke Awareness Month 🧠
Every second counts when it comes to a stroke. Would you know what to do if a loved one, colleague, or stranger started showing symptoms?

The best thing you can do is BE FAST to spot a stroke:
B - BALANCE: Did they suddenly lose balance or coordination?
E - EYES: Do they have changes in vision? Blurred or double?
F - FACE: Does one side of the face droop? Ask them to smile.
A - ARM: Does one arm drift downward? Ask them to raise both arms.
S - SPEECH: Is their speech slurred or strange? Ask them to repeat a simple phrase.
T - TIME: If you see any of these signs, call 911 immediately. Don’t wait!
