Mayor Baggett has issued a burn ban prohibiting all outdoor burning for the incorporated city limits of Big Sandy effective immediately.

During this monthly test, both our Outdoor Warning Sirens will sound.

The all-hazard Outdoor Siren Warning System for Public Safety is used to notify the public during emergencies. If you hear these sirens in circumstances other than a test, follow emergency information and instructions provided by official government channels.

Ugh!

Republic Services has notified us that their sanitation hauler (trash truck) experienced some mechanical issues and broke down while picking up trash today, Monday, July 20th.

Their current plan is to send another truck, so they estimate City of Big Sandy customers will experience a 4 hour delay in their trash pickup.

The City of Big Sandy’s annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), also known as the Annual Drinking Water Quality Report, is now available.

This report is published each year to provide our customers with important information about the quality of your drinking water, including where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to state and federal drinking water standards. The CCR details testing results for 20 regulated contaminants, including naturally-occurring organic materials and non-organic substances from our three groundwater wells.

We encourage all City of Big Sandy water customers to take a few moments to review the report and learn more about the water that serves our community. The City of Big Sandy remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and high-quality drinking water for our citizens.

Republic services, the City’s trash provider, has notified us that one of their trucks broke down yesterday and they were not able to complete their usual trash routes.

Many customers, both residential and commercial, did not get their trash picked up.

Republic Services will be sending a truck today to pick up the trash that wasn’t picked up yesterday.

Thank you for your patience as they finish their routes.

Change in Trash Pickup Schedule for City of Big Sandy Residents

Beginning Monday, June 1, 2026, Republic Services, the City of Big Sandy trash provider, will launch their "Hundred Days of Summer" campaign, where they will start trash pickup an hour earlier at 6:00 A.M.

Starting the trash routes earlier helps reduce heat related injuries for their employees who run 8-9 hour routes in 100+ degree temperatures.

This adjusted schedule will continue from June 2nd through September 1st.

Please have your trash carts curbside no later than 6:00 A.M. on your regular pickup days.

Thank you for helping us keep our essential workers healthy this summer!

There is a power line down near the intersection of S Wildcat and Gilmer Streets which has caused a power outage for parts of the city limits of Big Sandy.

Emergency crews are on site. Please avoid this area while crews make the needed repairs.
