We had a great turnout for the Geocaching meet and greet. Huge thanks to Cindy for taking the initiative to plan and schedule this meeting and for all her work setting up more than 16 new geocaches in the park. Those caches are now available on the app, so come out and get your smileys. 😊

🪨 Please Don’t Create Stone Cairns 🪨

We know stacking rocks can seem harmless (and even fun), but creating stone cairns in the park actually causes more harm than good.

Cairns can:
• Disturb wildlife habitat and fragile soils
• Damage vegetation and cultural resources
• Remove rocks that protect plants and insects

In our park, cairns impact the landscape we’re working to protect. They are important real estate that holds moisture for wildlife in our desert habitat. That moisture and protective housing is destroyed by moving these rocks and stacking them.

📸 Enjoy them with your eyes—not your hands—and help us keep the park natural and safe for everyone.

Thank you for being a good steward of your state park! 🌵💚

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
February 3, 2026
From: Shane Bowles, Public Works Director

Rescind Boil Water Notice

On January 28, 2026, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the City of Big Spring public water system (PWS ID #1140001), to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that, due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes, and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of February 3, 2026.

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Shane Bowles, Public Works Director, at 432-264-2501.
