Hello Moss Parents and Guardians!
We have received feedback about our drop off and pick-up procedures. After much consideration and communication with various departments, we will be making some changes to both drop off and pick-up procedures which will go into effect Monday, August 31.
Morning Drop off
We have had several instances of unsafe driving during morning drop off, including two instances on Thursday and Friday of drivers almost hitting the staff member directing traffic. Due to this, we are changing the drop off lane to one lane only. Please form one line along the curb closest to the school. Additionally, there will always be a staff member directing traffic and allowing pedestrians to cross on the crosswalk. When that staff member has the stop sign facing the car line, please stop. This means pedestrians have the right of way. Pedestrians, please make sure you are using the crosswalk to move from the street side to the school side and vice versa.
Afternoon Pick-up
Our afternoon pick-up procedure will be vastly different and will require parents or guardians to decide if their child will be an in-class pick-up or a car rider. It is confusing for students and staff when this changes daily. We will no longer be using the front drive for car rider pick-ups. Instead, we will use the parking lot on the southeast side of the building. Attached to this email is a map that shows how traffic will flow. We have designated the area in front of the playground as our car loading area. The parking spots currently in this area will no longer be used in that capacity. All students who are car riders will move to the gym during dismissal. Only the students whose vehicle is in the loading area will be allowed outside. Once vehicles have been loaded, cars will follow the curve and exit on the east side of the parking lot. There are two areas circled in yellow on the map which indicate areas for parent parking (if you are going in to pick up your child from class). Parents can still park on the curb in the front and on the side of the building if going in to get your child. We do understand that on occasion you may need your child to be a car rider or to be picked up from class. In those instances, please make sure you notify the office by 2:00. In order for staff to call for your child, you must still have the placard in your windshield. If you plan on still going to class to get your child, you must still have the blue QR code card.
We truly feel these new procedures will help ensure our students, parents, and staff are safe during drop off and pick up. As with any new procedure, there are bound to be bumps in the road. Please be patient as we work through any kinks that may arise.
