🎵 THE EDGE REOPENS TOMORROW! 🎵
The Edge will reopen tomorrow evening, Saturday, June 20, with what many would call a "soft opening" from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
For now, The Edge will be open every Saturday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM with very little advertising as we get things back up and running. We will have Collin Colston there to share how he began singing and share his music with us.
For those who may not know me, I'm Shirley Smith—though most simply call me Ms. Shirley. Since my foot surgery last December, my time has been in high demand. Between surgery, months of healing, and learning to walk again, many things had to be put on hold. That is the reason The Edge had to close in November of last year.
We are blessed with dedicated volunteers, but we have a limited number of people helping at The Edge. My goal is to keep The Edge open consistently and not have to close again.
One reason for this soft opening is to recruit volunteers who would like to help plan activities and events for Saturday nights. There is also a great deal of work behind the scenes to keep The Edge a safe, welcoming place where young people can gather and spend time with their friends.
Many of you know The Edge slogan: The Edge: Where Music Is on a Mission. I'm adding another slogan, "The Edge Got Talent!"
As a substance abuse counselor educator and President/Director of His Ministries, I would also like to begin offering some substance abuse prevention education for youth before The Edge opens at 6:00 PM.
The Edge is one of the prevention programs of His Ministries. Our mission is simple: to see youth, families, and individuals living their lives drug-free. As a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, everything we do reflects that mission.
I am looking for a few good volunteers to help on Saturday nights. I especially hope to reconnect with some of our former Edge youth whose lives were impacted by this ministry over the years. We have seen hundreds of young people come through our doors, and many have wonderful memories of their time here. I would love to invite them back to help the next generation. I am also looking for anyone who simply wants to be involved in providing a positive place for our youth to spend their Saturday evenings.
If you have ever considered volunteering, please don't hesitate to contact me or stop by tomorrow and let's talk.
Our volunteer work crew will begin at 4:00 PM to clean and prepare the building. The doors will open to youth at 6:00 PM.
If you're interested in volunteering or would like to learn more about The Edge, we'll be there tomorrow and would love to meet you.
See you Saturday!
Here are a few older photos from the beginning years.

Let's Test Drive by Faith Everybody!

We have Good News—we’ve already taken the van on a test drive!
Bad News—it was in our imagination. 😄😂
We can see it now: picking up youth, heading to outreach, volunteers riding together instead of caravaning all over town.
Now we just need to go from imagination… to ignition.
Could you pray about this need and if you're able, Help us turn the key on this need? Every donation gets us closer.
Will you help us trade in our imaginary van for a real one?
Our goal is $12,000 to purchase a newer van—and we need to move quickly. Right now, repairs on our current vehicle are slowly eating away at our resources and we never know when it will have to go into the shop again.😩
Every gift, no matter the size, moves us closer. You can give online at our GoFundMe link is at GoFundMe https://gofund.me/6f503640d
or by mailing a check/money order to:

His Ministries
407 Wood Ave E.
Big Stone Gap, VA 24219

(Mailed gifts will be added to our GoFundMe total.)

His Ministries is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All gifts are tax-deductible and deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your prayers and your support. Together, we can turn this imaginary van into real opportunities for hope, healing, and freedom. 💛
Please share our needs with others.

God Bless & Many Many Thanks and Blessings!

I took this photo of Melissa in 2016—broke down on the side of the road. Then began fundraising for a newer van.
Ten years later, we could be on the side of the road at any given time. We’ve been dealing with an unreliable van for several years now.
Will you, could you, would you, pray about this most urgent need and if you're able help us get a reliable van?
