Thank you all who joined us this past Saturday for another wonderful Muster and BBQ! Your support means so much to every member who serves this organization. The weather was perfect and the company of the community and volunteers was even better.

We couldn't do what we do with out the support of the community and to that, we want to thank all the volunteers who assisted with the BBQ. Whether you've been with us for decades or are new on scene, your help ensured we were able to feed the masses.

The local businesses also deserve recognition for supporting us with donations. Thank you Nepenthe and Newport Meat Co., Ventana, Deetjens, River Inn, Post Ranch and the Bitter Ginger for supplying food and beverage for the event.

To all our volunteer firefighters and hand crew members, thank you for your service to the community and showing up once again to make this day special.

We are proud to have unveiled our newest apparatus, a 4x4 “Tactical Water Tender” from Boise Mobile Equipment in Idaho, named the “Mammoth Extreme” was made entirely possible by the vision and generosity of a long time supporter of Big Sur Fire who wishes to remain anonymous. This water tender is named in honor of Chief Emeritus, Frank Pinney, who served with Big Sur Fire in varying capacities for over 50 years! It was an amazing tribute and we are once again grateful to those who were able to join us.

🔥Please be advised: today is the last day for back yard burning in Monterey County! 🔥

We want to remind residents that you can continue to work on your defensible space by utilizing the Big Sur Chipping program (through FABS) and requesting Big Sur Fire's Hand Crew. Please visit our website www.bigsurfire.org for more information.

🚫 BURNING PERMITS SUSPENDED 🚫

Effective 8:00 AM on May 1, 2026, CAL FIRE San Benito-Monterey Unit is suspending all burning permits for State Responsibility Areas within San Benito and Monterey Counties due to increasing fire danger, critical weather conditions, and dry vegetation.

🔥 What this means:

* All outdoor burning under permit is prohibited
* This suspension applies to all State Responsibility Areas (SRA)
* Campfires in organized campgrounds or on private property are only allowed if maintained safely to prevent spread

This proactive measure helps reduce wildfire risk and ensures firefighting resources remain available for emergencies.

We urge residents to use caution with any activity that could spark a fire and to stay informed on current conditions.

The missing dog from last week’s rescue has been found by his owner! This is the reunion we were hopeful for (and confident of). Thank you everyone who assisted in the search! I’m sure we’ll all feel relief knowing the dog is safely back with his owner.

Big Sur Fire is a small, community based fire department that relies solely on volunteers for our 911 response. First and foremost, we give thanks to the volunteer firefighters who assisted in the response of this incident and volunteer efforts to search for and retrieve the dog.
Additional thanks to Monterey County Sheriff and USAR and CHP for carrying out the rescue of the sick hiker, State Parks, and Ventana Wilderness Alliance for assisting with search efforts.

Please consider a contribution to Big Sur Fire, a non profit, so we may help continue to provide these essential services to Big Sur. Visit bigsurfire.org for more information.
