s, coyotes, mountain goats and an occasional wolf to call this country home, as well as many smaller mammals, eagles, hawks and lots of songbirds. We are privileged to ride across several good neighbors; coupled with our own land, there are countless miles of riding available. Our guests are welcome to take an active a part as they like in all phases of ranch life from feeding pigs to moving cows and wrangling horses. To insure everyone an opportunity to really enjoy the ranch, we take a limited number of guests. Come enjoy our special life and experience the friendly charm of the Sweet Grass Ranch.

Remembering week #5! Mid-July had allllll the best Sweet Grass things, including but not limited to: cotton candy sunsets, radiant orange sunrises, double rainbows, hammocks upon hammocks, an epic lightning show, an epic musical show courtesy of our dear friend John King , puppy pets, pony baths, flatbed dancing, a disco ball in the corrals, our new fjord Marc being a major menace and terrorizing the saddleshed (but it’s okay cuz he’s the cutest thing ever), the wranglers putting on their handywomen hats and building some new saddle stands, and another wonderful group of guests. Our old friends Bruce and Amy spent the week with us, working on projects and sprucing the place up with their usual devotion. Our new friends, the Ashe family, were up for anything, even a hike up canyon to clear trail. The Rodriguezes put up our teepee for us one morning, and basked on the banks of the creek with a herd of dogs in the afternoon. Four ladies who came separately became besties (hi, Layla, Karen, Nina, and Noel!). The kids and adults alike gave the games their all, burning and turning around barrels and balancing eggs and spoons with precision. It was another beautiful week in the best place on earth 🧡

Hard to believe it’s been four weeks since week #4! This year, our 4th week of the season ran from June 28th to July 4th and included lots of fun 4th of July activities! 🎇🇺🇸🦅❤️ We were joined by many friends, old and new, including 8 fantastic and spunky Australian ladies (heyyyy spursnslurs 🥂), our dearly beloved Kenyon / Burns clan who visited us from England to celebrate our independence 😉, the DeVorsses, the Goldzter-Whites, the Ottos, Sharon, Jamie and Declan, Al and Piper, Linda, Jen and Kim and their girls, and the Sweet Grass-famous Rodriguez brothers, Corey and Chris and their family! This was one of our fullest weeks in Sweet Grass history, and each of our guests added something special and fun to the dynamic. We loped across green fields, we cheersed at the campfire, we floated on the Beaver Ponds, and we set off a flurry of fireworks. The Indian Paintbrush and Brown-Eyed Susans were a riot of color, only to be outdone by the sudden arrival of the Northern Lights in waves of pink, green, and star-streaked purple. Chefs Amy and Andrew replicated their much loved American Flag cake from last summer, to the joy and delight of many tummies. Our horses were spoiled, hand fed a little Coors by Wynne and a lot of grass by Juliet. We moved the retirees over to the Bar B to enjoy a summer of much deserved rest and relaxation. Week #4 was another beautiful one at Sweet Grass, full of great people, great ponies, and a great kick off to our busiest month of the season ❤️🤍💙

Flashback to week #3! No offense to the rest of the summer, but late June is one of the best times to be at Sweet Grass. We are officially in full swing, the horses and staff have settled in to the routine, the days are long, the wildflowers are blooming, and the canyon is lush with the green green grass of home. Our third week of this summer was full of beautiful moments, from drizzly afternoon rides through the horse pasture to sunny dinner rides to Kit’s Pond, from very sleepy ponies resting in the corrals to happy doggos playing under the bridge. We were lucky enough to host a wonderful crew of guests, including our cover star Mr. Ed who spent his mornings riding our angel of a horse, Goose, and his afternoons on the shores of the Sweet Grass under the expert guidance of our fly fisherwomen extraordinaries, Hayden and Lindsey. We visited the Big Timber rodeo, swung around the street dance, and then returned to the ranch for the weekend to double fist lemonade and relax on front porches. Someone mentioned to me yesterday that I’m a bit delayed on my posts, to which I responded…you don’t say 😉! But I’m doing my best to get caught up so we can post in real time for the rest of the summer ❤️Check back in soon for our week #4 recap 🤠

Recapping Week #2! On June 14th, we welcomed our second set of guests for the 2026 season. After our opening week of Brazilians, we returned to our regularly scheduled programming of families enjoying their summer vacation. We had visitors from all over the U.S. and beyond, including one family who have been in the States for years and are now returning to Australia after a very sweet Sweet Grass send off. It was a week full of ba****ck rides, kids rides, dinner rides, goat toating, bridge jumping, and boot stomping. After a cool start to the season, the days were finally warm enough for creek swims for people and ponies alike. Our evenings featured sing-a-longs in the pavilion, led by the oh-so-talented Reston (with a little help from Tony and her dad, Turner). It was a wonderful group of guests to jump into our regular season with! And jump we did! After guests left on Saturday morning, we quickly turned the ranch around and set up for a wedding Saturday evening. Despite a rainy start to the night, the event was a great success thanks to good food, good people, an ice cream bar, an open bar, and a stunning rainbow that came out at just the right time to usher the newlyweds into their happy next chapter 🌈 🐎 💚🍦💐

Holy horses, the summer is flying by! We just finished our 5th week of the season, and we have so many fun recaps to share, so we’re going to take you week by week and let you know what we’ve been up to.

Our first week started the season off with a bang! Normally, we ease into the summer with a light week to let our horses and staff acclimate to the schedule. This year, though, we decided to dive right in the deep end. On June 7th, we were descended upon by 25 Brazilian men. And ladies and gents, let me tell you - you’ve never had such a fun week in your life. Most of these guys are big riders at home, competitive cutters and reiners and with breeding operations of their own. Our horses were fresh and a little feisty during the first week, but these guys just laughed at crow hops and turned even the most unlikely of candidates into fallen log jumpers. We galloped along to the Bar B, we barrel raced ba****ck, we shot some guns, we listened to the wonderful tunes of , we drank a respectable amount of wine, and we had a jolly old time. It was confusing enough that multiple of these men shared the same first names, but it became downright hilarious when they told us to abandon their given monikers and instead refer to them by titles such as “Mustache John,” “The Walking Dead,” “Wide Screen,” “The Chief,” “The Pharaoh,” and “Little Devil.” I’m not sure we’ve ever had a rowdier week at Sweet Grass. I’m also not sure we’ve ever had such a fun, appreciative group of guests. These guys love horses and family, which are our two favorite things as well, so we were a match made in heaven. We are so grateful to them for starting our season off on the perfect note. Until next time, boys. Bora bora bora!!!! 🇧🇷🇺🇸🍷🍻🐎🤠❤️

Aaaand we’re off! We just finished our first week of guests for the 2026 season, and we have SO many fun things to share about one of the most epic weeks in Sweet Grass history. But first, we need to recap our pre-season!

‘Twas the weeks before opening, when all through the ranch, all the creatures were stirring, even the moose under the tree branch; The curtains were hung in the windows with care, knowing the guests soon would be there; The horses were gathered all sleek in the spring, and wranglers put first rides on without even one fling; And papa on his lawnmower and grandma in her garden have just settled in for a sweet summer in the place they work hard in; Horseshoes were attached with an anvil-ing clatter, while the sun rose in a burning orange paint splatter; Housekeepers cleaned with great gusto and flash, so we could open the place and have it look class; The sky gave us much needed rain and even some snow, bringing a green luster to the valley below; Repairs were made before guests did appear, anticipating that another summer was near; River banks flooded and washed down many a stick, and the staff bonding commenced good and quick; Now the ranch is all ready and it’s the start of the ballgame, at Sweet Grass where things change but really always stay the same 💙💚🧡🩵🩷💛

10 days ‘til the kids come home for summer! We visited the big group of horses above Otter Creek yesterday. They were curious at first, but quickly boogied away, probably suspecting that it’s nearly time to go back to work. In 10 days, we’ll bring them in for the season! Which sweet or sassy pony are you most excited to see? 🩵
