SGCSAR is 100% volunteer and has 21 members, many of whom also serve as EMTs, paramedics, law enforcement officers and volunteer firefighters. SGCSAR provides our county, as well as surrounding counties, with all aspects of technical rescue assistance including: rope rescue, swift water rescue, backcountry rescue and rescue in urban areas for missing people. SGCSAR teams also serve an important role during large weather events, such as snow storms or floods, by responding with the local ambulance service to ensure prompt medical intervention to victims.
SGCSAR has been fortunate to average just 20 calls each year, but that number continues to grow as SAR members continue to take on the role of assisting the ambulance in times of need.
SGCSAR has no doubt had a very busy year this year with 26 calls for service so far. Those calls included five searches for missing individuals, 10 rescues of injured people and 11 calls for mutual aid to our surrounding counties.
SGCSAR is a volunteer arm of the Sweet Grass County Sheriff’s Office, but its only funding mechanism is through donations. Members purchase the majority of their own rescue and response equipment. SGCSAR is a not-for-profit organization through our county agency, making any donations tax deductible. We will provide any necessary paperwork to assist you as well.
Every dollar you donate helps the Sweet Grass County Search and Rescue save a person in need. You and your donation play a critical role in helping your community. Once again, the members of SGCSAR would like to thank you for your continued support.
