🌧️💧 Students Helping Protect Our Waterways!
After learning about their local watershed throughout the school year—including erosion control activities and studies of wetland wildlife—students from Hajjar Elementary School are putting their knowledge into action.

When they discovered trash coming from a storm drain outfall on school property, they wanted to help prevent littering and protect local waterways. The students recently helped stencil storm drains around Hajjar Elementary School with messages reminding everyone that storm drains flow directly to our rivers, streams, and wetlands.

This project is a great example of how the Town is enhancing stormwater education while empowering students to become environmental stewards in their community.

You are invited to the second community meeting of the SuAsCo Climate Collaborative!

We had more than 45 people attend our first meeting and some truly great conversations about climate resilience and preparedness across the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord River watershed. It was inspiring to see so many residents come together to share ideas, discuss local challenges, and help shape strategies for a more resilient future.

We would love for you to join us again and help spread the word to others who may be interested. This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts, concerns, and experiences related to climate change in the SuAsCo watershed and learn more about the regional climate resilience planning effort currently underway.

Location: Ashland Public Library, Schiesske Large Meeting Room

Light refreshments will be provided. We can also provide language interpretive and childcare services if requested during registration.

Please note that a large municipal parking lot is located directly across from the library. We ask that attendees do not park in the library parking lot.

Happy National Public Works Week! 🚧💧🚛

The roads don’t pave themselves. The water doesn’t magically appear. And those streetlights definitely aren’t powered by good vibes alone.

Behind every shower, flush, commute, and “why is my Wi-Fi out but somehow the water still works?” moment, there’s an army of Public Works pros keeping our communities running 24/7.

From roads, stormwater systems, and sewers to snowplows, trees, water systems, and fixing the things most of us never even notice until they break. These crews do it all (often before most of us finish our first cup of coffee ☕).

This week we celebrate the hardworking Public Works employees across every city, village, and municipality who keep life moving behind the scenes. Thank you for everything you do for our communities! 👏

💧 Small actions, BIG impact! 💧

This Sunday, our amazing Girl Scouts took action right here in the Harjean neighborhood by stenciling 26 storm drains with a powerful reminder: “Only rain down the drain.” 🌎

Why does this matter? Everything that enters those drains—trash, chemicals, pet waste—flows directly into our local waterways. These girls are helping protect our environment one stencil at a time, and it’s inspiring to see!

✨ They’re not done yet! More storm drains will be stenciled later this month, and every bit of support makes a difference.

Want to help keep our community clean and our water safe?
✔️ Be mindful of what goes into storm drains
✔️ Pick up litter when you see it
✔️ Cheer on (or join!) these young environmental leaders

A big splash of good news: we’ve distributed 38 rain barrels to Billerica residents! That’s 38 new ways to catch the rain, conserve water, and keep our local environment flowing in the right direction.

By collecting rainwater, these barrels help reduce runoff, protect our waterways, and give gardens a natural drink—talk about going with the flow! 🌱

Thanks to everyone who participated—you’re making a real difference, one drop at a time. Let’s keep the momentum pouring! 💙

Spring is here 🌸—time to get your yard in shape and keep our waterways happy 💧

Let’s play a quick game of “Spring Prep Bingo”:

✔️ Got a rain barrel? (Free water = win 💦)
✔️ Using the Town’s curbside yard waste pickup? (because the street is not a compost bin 😅)
✔️ Skipping phosphorus fertilizers? (your local streams say thank you 🙌)
✔️ Picking up pet waste and tossing it in the trash? (glamorous? no. important? VERY.)

Spent some time at Peggy Hannon-Rizza Park with an awesome group of Girl Scouts, and wow—what a fun and meaningful afternoon 🌿💧

We explored the park while talking about stormwater management (yes, it’s more interesting than it sounds!) and how everyday pollution can end up in our waterways. The girls asked great questions and really got into the idea of protecting our environment right in their own community.

The highlight? Getting hands-on with stenciling storm drains! 🎨 We marked them with “No Dumping, Drains to Waterway” to help spread awareness to neighbors and anyone passing by. Such a simple action, but it makes a big impact.

Feeling inspired by this next generation of environmental stewards 💚🌎
