The Nurturing Parenting Program classes are offered in two-hour weekly sessions for a 12-week series. Curriculum covers appropriate child-rearing techniques, realistic expectations, empathy for others, and discipline methods. Afternoon and evening classes are offered year round. Home visits take place in the family home by trained Family Support Specialists who work with families to increase their capabilities to nurture their children in a safe and stable environment. FSN operates on the premise that all families have strengths and are capable of change given sufficient help and resources. Supervised visits allows parents to play with, listen to, and connect with their child(ren), and model healthy behavior in a safe, inviting and comfortable environment. Focus is on helping parents and children connect, teaching parents about child development, promoting child safety and health, practicing positive parenting skills, and improving the health and well being of parents and children. Mental health needs are also addressed through FSN. Our agency seeks to provide intervention, support and assistance to children diagnosed with a mental illness and their families. We want to ensure that children with mental illness have community-based services and high quality educational, medical and rehabilitation services. If your child has a diagnosed mental health issue, FSN may be able to provide services free of charge.
