Window Restoration Kit workshop on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Thanks to Preserve Montana, Mary Webb (instructor), Montana State Historic Preservation Office, and Mayor Bill Cole for your support. Stay tuned - The window restoration kits will be available locally for check out in the near future.

Window Restoration Kit workshop on Saturday, April 13 from 9-3, at Pioneer Park’s Zimmerman Center (5th Street West). Limited to 12 Participants. This is a free sponsored event. There are still four spaces available. This unique Preservation Montana hands on workshop shows how to restore historic wood windows. Kits are available for check out. Contact David Green at the Yellowstone County Planning Office. The workshop is sponsored by the Montana State Historic Preservation Office and Bill Cole.

Thanks to everyone who attended the 23rd Annual YHPB Preservation Roundtable. Congratulations to Art House Cinema and Pub (the host) and architect Dennis Deppmeier of 2North for their work transforming the G&W Building into another great downtown venue. Congratulations to Dave Wanzenried, recipient of the 2024 Eugene Carroll Historic Preservation Award for his efforts to preserve and improve the Canyon Creek battle site interpretive area and for improvements to the Coulson Boothill cemetery park.

The YHPB Best Practices Achievement award and Eugene Carroll Historic Preservation Award will be presented at the event hosted by Art House Cinema and Pub at 109 North 30th. Congratulations to director Matt Blakeslee, Art House Cinema Board and Staff, their sponsors and supporters, and architect Dennis Deppmeier for guiding the amazing transformation of the 1941 Billings Bowling Center / Center Lanes.

Yellowstone County was well represented at the 2023 Historic Preservation Awards, May 5, 2023, at the Myrna Loy Center in Helena. The event was hosted by the Montana Historical Society State Historic Preservation Office. Yellowstone County properties recently listed in the National Register of Historic Places include the Billings Communal Mausoleum at Mountview Cemetery, McKinley Elementary School, Montana National Bank on North Broadway, Pioneer Park, and the Kate Fratt Parochial School. The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation.

Congratulations to Michael Burke and Sherril Burke of HGF Architects of Billings. They were the recipients of the 2023 Governor's Award for Outstanding Historic Preservation Project for their adaptive reuse of the Kate Fratt Memorial Parochial School. They converted the 1919 downtown school into several condominiums. They're pictured at the Myrna Loy in Helena with Lt. Governor Kristen Juras (left) and Pete Brown (right), the Montana State Historic Preservation Officer. HGF Architects was also the recipient of the 2022 YHPB Award for Best Practices for their renovations and adaptive reuse of the Fratt School.

Had a fantastic time this morning at the YHPB Roundtable! Love to hear all the historic happenings in the community! We also presented the Eugene Carroll and Best Practices Awards. The Eugene Carroll award was presented to Mayor Bill Cole for his support and advocacy of historic preservation in our community. The Best Practices award was presented to High Plains Architects for the restoration of The Monte. This is the fifth award to High Plains! Enjoy the photos!
