The Elevation Church Library is now officially open for business as a separate entity. While the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) is still under construction, it has gone live and you can access it through this link: https://www.librarycat.org/lib/Elevation.Church.MT

As the site is still under construction, you may not find everything you are looking for. Please be patient with us. We are planning to have our holdings updated by the end of this year. In the interim, if your search doesn't produce any relevant findings, you can email [email protected] with an inquiry. We still have all the Bible Study Kits available, so contact us about those too.

I'd like to introduce you to one of my favorite contemporary New Testament theologians, N.T. Wright. "Tom" Wright is an Anglican bishop who has taught at St Mary's College in the University of St Andrews in Scotland and who currently serves as a senior research fellow at Wycliffe Hall at the University of Oxford. Although Dr. Wright is steeped in scholarly research, his writing and teaching are intensely relevant to today's church. In fact, he has been referred to as the C. S. Lewis for the 21st century. One of my favorite texts of his is 'The New Testament in Its World: An Introduction to the History, Literature, and Theology of the First Christians.' This book is a fascinating review of New Testament based on its setting and offers invaluable insights to modern day Christ followers (the Ida Dockery Owen Library houses a copy of this volume). I was delighted to discover that Dr. Wright also sponsors an online platform which offers his teaching, including this free course on the letter to Philemon. I would encourage all of the library patrons to meet Dr. Wright and to be encouraged and edified through the ministry of his teaching. ~Vanessa

Paul and His Letter to Philemon communicates the importance of breaking down and confronting social norms. Watch along as Prof. N.T. Wright discusses this timeless message. Preview the Course Enjoy this Course for FREE! Email Address

'EXEGETICAL COMMENTARY ON THE NEW TESTAMENT: MARK' BOOK REVIEW: As a student of Scripture, I prefer to study the Bible on a verse-by-verse exegetical analysis of a single book. This commentary on the book of Mark, a Zondervan publication, did not disappoint. Providing outlines, Greek text, and translation of each verse, author Mark Strauss uses his scholarly insights to dissect passages, providing multiple interpretative options (both historical and contemporary) that are augmented by the nuances of literary constructs and historical context. Strauss closes out each section of his analysis with pertinent thematic discussions and theological applications. His discussions are balanced with technical expertise and footnotes alongside easily understood explanations, making this a valuable manual for theologians and laymen.

I also found that Zondervan Publishing offers supplemental videos and a course on Mark, both of which are based on this text. The videos can be obtained on Vimeo (approximately $110 to purchase perpetual access) and you will find them at this link:

The online course is offered through Zondervan Academic's online program (approximately $230 for one year access) and can be purchased through this link:

Overall, guided by Strauss's work, my 2022 has kick-started with a newer appreciation of Mark's gospel and a greater adoration for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

'TOP TEN MISTAKES LEADERS MAKE' BOOK REVIEW: Before you discount this book as not applicable to you, review your roles. Are you a parent, a teacher, a student, an employee? Every role in life involves your participation in some aspect of leadership. Hans Finzel writes in a lively and transparent narrative style about leadership mistakes, and chances are that you have either encountered or committed one or more of these destructive errors. Starting with the "top-down attitude," which Finzel identifies as the most common mistake and the opposite of the servant-hearted leadership style modeled by Christ, Finzel elaborates on leadership mishaps and offers corrective advice that is applicable to all readers. His anecdotal commentary and biblical examples further reinforce each point. For assistance in checking out this title, email [email protected].
