Keesler Air Force Base is home to Keesler Medical Center, a busy 60 bed hospital that cares for active duty service members and their families, retired service members and VA patients. The 81st Medical Group operates one of the largest Air Force medical facilities in the Air Force. Its primary mission is to maintain medical readiness for worldwide contingencies by providing quality, cost-effective

health care for more than 27,000 enrollees, including almost 7,500 active-duty members. In addition, the 81st MDG commander oversees the Gulf Coast Multi-Service Market, which includes five military medical treatment facilities from Mobile, Ala., to New Orleans, coordinating care for 80,000 eligible beneficiaries along the Gulf Coast. The Keesler Internal Medicine Residency Program is a three year program that provides training in inpatient medicine, ambulatory medicine and preventative care. Upon graduation, Keesler residents are board eligible internal medicine physicians and many go on to subspecialties to include allergy, cardiology, genetics, nephrology, pulmonary/critical care.

These interns (PGY-1) from the Keesler Class of 2027 are thrilled to have finished their first July of residency!

July is an important time of transition in GME training and marks a shift for newly graduated medical students into actual functioning doctors in training, in charge of their first patients, writing their first orders, and getting their feet wet into what the next 3 years are going to look like. Congratulations!

May 23rd, 2024.

Keesler Internal Medicine Residency graduation.

A celebration of both PGY-3 residents taking their places as fully qualified Internal Medicine Physicians into their new roles as staff/fellows and of the PGY-1 residents transitioning from Intern to Senior.

It is an old Keesler tradition to take graduation photos on the sun-drenched front steps of the 81 MDG, flanked by centuries old live oaks. Congratulate these two classes on making their mark in Keesler and Air Force Medical Corps history!

Following up on their sweep at the USAF ACP Doctors Dilemma Jeopardy competition and appearing at the national competition for the second year in a row, Keesler was strong enough to make it all the way to the semi-finals! Next year, the Osler Cup! (3rd time, they say, is the charm)

Keesler residents recently made the trip to Destin to present their research at CCR East Rheum in the Beach and the NYRIF conference. Rheum on the Beach is one of the favorite Keesler conferences—well attended and highly anticipated each year. You know what they say! There’s rheum in everything, and everything is rheum!
