How are these funds being spent? How much is allocated to Biloxi Ward 2? We MUST get our fair share. We WILL be seen, and we WILL be heard!

Ward 2 is in dire need of economic development and a new recreation center to replace the two recreation centers destroyed over twenty years ago in Katrina. We have been promised a recreation center over and over again by the City. City officials have gone out to the approved site where the new recreation center is supposed to sit. They took pictures with shovels in their hands. The City spent over a quarter of a million dollars on engineering reports and plans. The engineering department has stated that this project is ready to be funded. The funds were set aside in previous years but have been used in other projects in other parts of the city.

We need to find a way to get those funds back so we can complete the construction of our recreation center. The discussion on Tuesday leaves out this whole construction project. This discussion was tabled in the last meeting, because you were there. We need you to share this with others, show your faces again and express that this is not acceptable.

THE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR BOND IS STILL UNDER DISCUSSION.

Because so many of you showed up last week, the item was tabled. It is now rescheduled for Tuesday, February 10 at 10:00 AM in the Council Chambers.

The City is discussing a $14-$20 million bond, yet Ward 2 is slated to receive less than $500,000, mainly for restoration of the Old Brick House and A/C for the new civic center, while the rest of our community is left out.

No funds are designated for our parks, streets, drainage, a grocery store, or rebuilding the recreation center destroyed by Katrina. Other wards are receiving millions.

For years, East Biloxi has been overlooked. This is an unfair distribution, and it’s time our voices are heard.

Please attend this meeting and hear it for yourself. Your presence truly matters.

Ward 2 is important. East Biloxi is important. Fairness is important.
