Birch Run firefighters attended a live fire and propane training this week. The first training was a multi department training with Bridgeport and Frankenmuth firefighters at the City of Saginaw training center. The other training was held at Birch Run Fire Department.

Birch Run Fire was at water rescue training today with Bridgeport, Frankenmuth, and Spaulding Fire.

Birch Run Fire responded to a pole barn fire with vehicles inside. Birch Run had mutual aid from Clio 1 and Clio 2 along with Taymouth Fire to extinguish the fire. The building and contents was a complete loss.

Tonight at the Birch Run Fire Association monthly meeting we honored Assistant Chief Jim Totten with a token of appreciation for his 50 years (almost to the day) of service to the Birch Run and surrounding communities. Jim is pictured below with Fire Chief Dave Matzke, Township Supervisor Ray Letterman, and his son, retired firefighter Brady Totten.

Birch Run Fire responded to 4 incidents today, with 1 call being a 60x80 pole barn on fire. When Engine 7 arrived on scene we had heavy fire to the structure and siding melting on the house and fire next to a propane pig. Birch Run crews started cooling the house and propane pig. Birch Run had mutual aid from Frankenmuth Fire, Bridgeport Fire, Taymouth Fire, MMR and Frankenmuth Police. One person on scene did receive minor burns to his fingers but did not require medical attention.

It is a great program, that allows you to graduate from the fire academy, before you even graduate high school.
