Last summer from the light poles in Birch Run, 25 colored vinyl banners (24" x 48') with photos were hung honoring "Hometown Heroes" from the Birch Run area. The banners hung from late spring until fall. The program was conducted by the Birch Run VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Working with families and/or friends, the program was to recognize those who served, either living or deceased, in our military, who volunteered or took part in various areas to betterment of our nation and the Birch Run area. The Taymouth Firefighters Association sponsored two of their own that served the community and fire service.

Seen here are (left to right) Taymouth Fire Maintenance Sgt. Marc Schrubbe and Safety Officer Mike Prueter, hanging the banners of the late Howard Frye (left), Navy WWII Vet and Rich Lambert (right), Army in the Taymouth fire station. Both dedicated their life to serving as a firefighter. Both were military veterans, plus active in their respective churches, Taymouth Historical Association, The American Legion and VFW.

The program will be repeated in 2021, with applications being accepted. Contact Fran Daniels for more information at 989-624-5623 or email [email protected]

Numerous severe storms expected this afternoon with all severe hazards including damaging wind gusts around 70 mph or greater, large hail up to one inch, and a few tornadoes.
Thunderstorms will be moving fast today, which means you may have less time than usual to react and seek shelter when a warning is issued. This is especially important to keep in mind for more vulnerable places, like mobile homes, during severe weather. Consider executing your safety plans when a watch is issued and seek more substantial shelter.

James "Jim" Grant, age 63, long time former Taymouth Firefighter passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, April 9th, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. He had 12 years of service on the department from (1997 - 2009). He was very active in both the department and the Taymouth Firefighters Association and served as the Department's Safety Officer for a number of years. He liked telling stories over a cup of coffee after calls and always loved to talk his MSU Vs. U of M sports. A truck driver by trade, he put his experience to work as a excellent driver and pump operator. He was very proud of his daughter, Beth, as she followed her father onto the department and then into the medical field.

Thanks to the Taymouth Township Fire Department for inviting me out for a severe weather talk and refresher. Solid group of firefighters that are ready for the coming season. Visiting different departments around the area is definitely a fun part of this job.
Celebrate Larry Prueter 47 Years of dedicated service
Even the firefighters were having a good time! Marc Schrubbe and Will Barnum
A very big thank you to the Taymouth Township Fire Department. They responded very quickly to a chimney fire at my house late Sunday night. Thank goodness we were all safe and no damage to house. They were very kind and understanding. Especially since I had just lost my husband Dec. 23rd. They were able to keep me calm and put out chimney fire. My daughter was visiting with my 4 and 2 year old grand children. They gave the kids bears to snuggle with. Helped them feel safe and fall fast asleep after all the excitement was done. Today I got a surprise visit from them to make sure I was doing good. This was above and beyond the call of duty. I can not say enough about their kindness and compassion. Thank you for all you do to keep the community safe!
