Birdsboro-Union Fire Department: The 7 House

While Rescue & Utility 7 were in Schuylkill County today, Engine 7 with a crew of 3 assisted NFC Station 64 on a large mulch pile fire on Schuylkill Rd in North Coventry Twp.

Engine 7 supplied the scene out of port-a-ponds, as Tankers from all over Chester, Montgomery, and Berks County dumped into them.

Rescue & Utility with a crew of 7 are covering Ryan Township, Schuylkill County today while they host the 72nd Annual Schuylkill County Firemen’s Convention.

Station 7 along with mutual aid, was dispatched to N. Walnut St. in the borough for a Possible Structure Fire. The caller stated nobody was home and could hear smoke alarms going off. Engine 7 arrived on scene finding a severe smoke condition on the first floor. Unknown what the cause was, Engine 7 made it a working fire. Assistant 7 established Command, and Quint 6 sent the main to the roof. Engine 7 crewman found the oven on self cleaning mode, venting heavy smoke into the house. Command held it to 7, 6, and 25. Crews ventilated the structure and checked the walls for heat extension. The incident was isolated to the stove and the scene was turned over to the Borough FM.

Thank You Mt. Penn for hosting this weeks training night.

You may be wondering why we’re training with two companies who aren’t immediately next to us. Lower Alsace and Mt. Penn are two of our more frequently worked with mutual aid departments, along with Monarch, Exeter, Amity, Geigertown and Gibraltar. We are on the SF assignment in Mt. Penn Boro with Engine 7, and RIT in Lower Alsace Twp. with Rescue 7. Familiarization is important; you never know which apparatus you may have to grab a tool off of at a scene.

Big Thank You to Troy and his team for quick and efficient work! The A/C in Engine 7 was blowing warm/hot air, so we scheduled an appointment at Troy’s. They were able to quickly diagnose and replace the failed compressor, and get it back to blowing refreshing cool air.

Tonight, crews went over ground ladders and the different techniques of raising and lowering them. Senior members went over how to tie the halyard and the reason behind it.

Are you interested in becoming a member with the BUFD? Stop down any week day between 7am-5pm, or our training nights after 7pm.

Starting in July, we are switching our training night to Tuesday nights.
