Last week and again this afternoon, the Union Pacific “Big Boy” locomotive 4014 roared through northern Robeson Township. Hundreds of spectators lined the tracks to observe this historic occasion. Both times, units from Station 24, Gibraltar Fire Company, TowerDirect, and the Robeson Township Police Department were present to ensure the event unfolded in a safe and enjoyable manner. Only a couple incidents were reported, which emergency personnel handled proficiently. Personnel also assisted with traffic control for the influx of event related traffic. This was an unusual event, but the cooperation of all Robeson Township responder agencies helped make it a successful one.

A special thank you to Robeson Township Police Chief Joe Brown for his expert handling of these two events, from proactive collaborative planning, and his (we never knew) excellent traffic control abilities.
